Thanks For All The Posts Been Away for A Few Days
The 2.5 5pot VW/audi Engine Sounds Like A Better Idea But What Sort Of Power Could I Get Out Of One While Still Having Reliability And Good Fuel economy.
As For The Wiring Could I Run A Omex System And Have It Programmed To This Engine Etc?
As For The Prop I Know Someone Who Build Autograss Cars And He Said He Could Build Me A Custom Prop Etc.
This Will Be A long Project I know but I Want It To Run And Look Perfect.
Thanks
James

Assuming you don't already have a car, there's no reason not to start with a 360 shell...and that will have a strong enough drivetrain out of the box without having to worry about a prop. So yes, you can keep the box at the back. The 340 setup is only an advantage if you're going to run one of the Renault diesels which share a bellhousing with the 1.7. You're going to need an adaptor for anything else, so you might as well adapt it to the 360 bellhousing.
The Audi/VW lump found in 850s made 140bhp out of the box, and they chip to around 180. I think this makes for an easier swap than the D5 - less in the way of electronics to worry about - it's basically an electronically controlled mechanical system. I don't seem to be able to get any clear info on whether the block is iron or alloy...but I presume it's iron, which is a shame. The D5 is alloy.
I'm not an expert on diesels, but my understanding is that they need multiple injector firings per cycle, which is something that only very high end aftermarket engine management systems (Autronic, etc) can do. At that point, it's probably cheaper (and a LOT easier) to buy the Volvo Penta (D3-163) setup (for a D5). Stripping the management system out of an S60 is perfectly possible, but you'd need to be very careful...and be prepared to take quite a bit of the rest of the car (security computer, ABS, etc) with you. The ABS may well need fitting to the 300...eek! At that point, the Penta management looks very tempting...
cheers
