1979 Volvo 343 dl front lower ball joint size

Post by smacfras » 02 May 2025 06:27 pm

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and never posted before. I have a 1979 volvo 343 dl variomatic. I am on with renewing the front springs, dampers, track rod ends, trailing arm bushes, brakes and also the lower ball joint.
All is going well apart from the new lower ball joint is slightly bigger than the old one.
The two bolt holes are identical but the stud is about half an inch taller and a tad thicker than the old one, does this matter. It would mean the lower suspension arm would be sitting about half an inch higher than it is now.
I look forward to reading your comments.

Just realised that it's attached to the lower arm, so once its attached to the wheel hub casting it would actually push the lower arm lower.
Would it be possible for me to drill the hole in the casting a little larger, so the new stud would screw up further and it would then be in the same position as the old one.
