Seriously though, no fault on our part - it is my wifes car and she passed her driving test in it.

She wants me to put her back on the road - question is - will it be worth it

That's for her to answer. Putting that lot straight won't be cheap. I'm struggling to justify the expense of putting Nessy back on the road, and there's very little wrong with her (in comparison)!

cheers

I dont think it is as bad as it looks. A new front pannel front wing(s) and bonnet should see her staitened out. Take a trip to the srappy and you should get the bolt on pannels no problems. The front pannel is going to be the worst problem as they have normaly rotted away.

not worth it mate.

they are worth between £50-£250 MAX! its going to cost you way over that to repair it.

if its a 360 they worth slightly more. still not worth it.

Vicky's car ended up with almost as much damage(front bumper wing and bonnet). The car is very solid so was worth repairing. admitedly I did have the bits to fix it but it still cost me about £300 to get everything sprayed and fitted and a bit of straitening. If it happened again I would do all over again as the car is in very good condition.

I'm sure you will have already decided on the cars fate by now.

Theres alot of this attitude of comparing market value to what repairs should or shouldn't be worth doing. Ok, maybe the car is worth a couple of hundred quid maximum - but it's worth what you value it.

In a financial sense, no - it's not going to be worth spending on to repair. But then is that really the most important thing?

I say fix it. If your wife says she likes the car, what's there to argue about? You could ofcourse buy a new car, but you wil have to spend at least as much money on that as when you fix the volvo.

financially its probably not worth doing.. the chassis bars could well be bent and you'd be looking at a lot of money.. whether its worth it or not.. kinda up to you..

Hookay the chassis is not bent, parts are around £300 and before this it has never let us down (except for a rotten fuel tank).

I do like it and my wife trusts it totally so maybe I will be doing a 'How to rebuild the front end of the 300 series technical article'

If parts are going to be £300 you may be better off getting another 300 from e-Bay for less and swapping the panels over. Remove all the rest that may come in useful in the future and scrap the shell getting £40 back for that.

I'm faced with a similar sort of repair, on a car that is worth next to nothing, however it was my first GLT, I know the car very well, what it's had done and the rest of it is pretty good. To find a mint car is hard, so I'm planning on repairing everything that needs repairing properly, and make it into a 300 that should last some time. Also if you get another 300, you need to start again, find out what is wrong, what needs doing etc. But on the other hand that would be the cheaper option...... It depends on if you let senitmental value take over rather than costs.

Your right a new 300 would be cheaper (my GLT was just over £100)

however:

As Pete said we know the car - inside and out it has been ours for over 9 years, and my wife has used it since it was 4 years old  , she learnt to drive and passed her test in it.

So on this score the sentimentality overrules all other considerations and with any luck the insurance (Taxi's fault) will cough up the required £300.

It is not my decision, I can do the work (Mechanical and body). My wife has the last word on this one.

I feel a rebuild coming on
