Stuntman wrote:I agree mate, how about keeping us upto date with the costs and time involved?? If thats not to nosey?
where to begin on the cost?
1. was the interior, BIN IT, no i removed all of the seat and the carpet but left the sound proofing (lefting over the winter keep in the warmth) but will be removed soon. the seats came from my old car but have seen bucket seats in my local paper for £50-80 the pair, the subframes are made from 3mm angle (will get pic soon). i have started to put in a hydrolic hand brake which cost me £35 for the cylinder and mount but need to make a lever (will keep posted on that).
2. suspention thanks to a nice drive to anglesea? to see Dai (classicswede) for the lowering spring and blocks (i think i need comisin for the amount of times i have mentioned that) for the small sum of £75, but i will be getting more parts from Dai eg poly bushs and shockers.
3.wheels was an ebay find at £230 to the door the most expensive part of the build so far, they are revolution 7x13 running 175/50v13. the pcd is 4x101 so they sit .5 of a mm out on the studs.
3. the engine is being worked on at the mo and is top secret untill finished but lets say its not been done to a 340 yet to my knowledge.
Any questions please ask.
thanks.

p.s. i cant spell.

Not sure how it'll be to remove the soundproofing when it warms up but I did all of mine couple of months back and its came off in quite nice chunks as it was so cold, still took bloody ages, about 3days if you worked on it solidly I reckon, well worth it though the bin bags i've filled weigh a ton!

When a mate of mine was stripping his Escort he used a blow torch to remove the sound proofing, then white spirit to clean it off. Worked a treat (except for setting light to his arm!!)

BTW, sexy looking car :)

Yeah its weird the boot floor and where the rear seats should be comes off fine but the rear footwells we're absolute b*stards on mine it just wouldn't come off in big chunks at all, the transmission tunnel stuff is a bugger aswell as its so soft and the matting thats glued to the front of the footwells was a mission, should be worth it in the longrun tho!

When someone takes all the soundproofing out they ought to weigh it to see how worthwhile it is. Obviously weight is weight, but how worthwhile is it?

I weighed mine and as far as I can remember it was about 15kg just in soundproofing alone, thats without including any of the seats, interior trim etc

and the more weight you take out, the easier it is to redistribute it for perfect balance :D

Acid is good for weight loss, 20% off from metal and we are seeing weight loss :D

Ok, maybe not good for safety and it is not too easy to do properly.

Is it because of insurance that common drift car is 340 or is there some other advantages?

Cheap to buy over here and not many other similarly sized RWD cars really. I think it's also slight rebelling to the staid image that the 300 has over here.

I might be wrong, but does Jani mean the 340 as opposed to the 360? I wondered why the 340 has been used instead of the 360, as the 360 has the torque tube instead of the prop shaft, known for it's weaknesses with a stock setup and no abuse.
