ok new on here alough member of various other car communities,i live on the isle of arran scotland and we have our own annual rally/autotest/grass track/hillclimb event in june,anyway my stead this year is a volvo 360 gls 1983 vintage with the 2.0 litre volvo engine,well im going to weld diff,but what other things can i do to this engine to get a bit more power with out spending to much cash!!as you can tell its not to serious,i have every convidence that the old girl is going to take the punishment well, its only done 80k,as the event is over three days,so any help greatly appreciated,cheers gus

I'm not sure if a welded diff will help you out much on loose surfaces, you may lose time fighting it going sideways all the time Sounds like good fun though! I'd look at carbs/camshaft combinations to get more power but they may not be that cheap...

yeh i will be getting stripped out,yeh no what your saying about welding diff but theres a grass track and autotest in a quarry so it would be even worse standard,any way its all part of the fun

Be careful if you increase power output of engine, brakes probably won't keep up and there is no fun ending down to ford because of brake fade

I posted on your other thread, but yes to welding the diff if you have any sub 10mph corners. Putting some ebay special dampers on the rear will help with cornering speed without it throwing you out too. Not landy ones....

How much is of what surface? Getting some cheap wheels with good tyres off the blag will help no end, I just had a weekend of understeering Pirellis!

cheers guys,yeh i have a set of grass track tyres for it and will use the ones that are on it for the auto test as they will be smoking!!!! and have set of volvo aloys that will do for the tarmac hill climb,the car will be for sale after wards but not with the trophies!!!!!! ha ha
