Aye, they may have gone up in price in absolute terms.

How about using HD's benchmark of Transit tanks of diesel. How much would the same car had commanded 12 months ago, and how much was a transit tank of diesel 12 months ago. Let's value things in TToDs.

80 litre tank was £115 this year
a year ago, same amount was £109
so 5.5% increase if my maths is correct

so if 300 was worth £450 last year it should sell for £475 this year

Only thing is that oil prices vary so wildly that it's not a good consistant measure of the value of things.
But, as almost everything we eat, drink or use involves huge amounts of oil to make and transport, maybe it's a good measure?

Lets see how much a tank cost 6 years ago.....

In September of 2006 that same 80 litre tank cost £73.50

Thats a massive 56% increase in price :o

So therefore in 6 years time that 300 should be worth £743! (assuming it's not a pile of rust)

My maths might not be correct...

Edit. 10 years ago, that same tank cost just £61.50, so thats an 87% increase in fuel cost in 10 years.
So by 2022 a tank will take £215 to fill :?

Maybe we could use instead the equally variable price of certain items:

20 B&H (£7.50 now, 20 years ago £2.10)
Pint of lager ???
Mars bars ???

It's probably easier/better to tie it to wages.

Could well be, they're 25 eurocent now!

How much are Polo mints now? Used to about 8p circa 1979.

Well, 400g of meat was around 2€ less than year ago, price is now 2.9€.

Looking at frozen foods at shop, there are rarely any under 8€/kg

At 1997 I could buy rich dinners for a day and have bit of sweets for under 2€ (of course then we had own currency), today buying exact same stuff costs bit under 6€, paycheck has not even doubled even I switched to better paying job, which has pretty much dried up already so income is actually lot less.

Petrol has not yet doubled price though, only 1.9 times or so. Diesel has more than doubled.

Then we have got new taxes and tax like payments that take several tenners each month, electricity tax doubled etc.

So without getting more must pay more, at this rate soon can't afford to eat, well, fishing works.

Still you can get POS french car with 300-500 with MOT and such, but 300 is close or above 1000, so maybe it is not 300 prices going up, but POS french prices going down

By 2050 working man can't afford fill the tank. Some estimates are it to happen 2030.

Anyway those wild swings at oil price are because supply and demand are so close each other that any disruption can cause demand to go over supply which skyrockets prices, there is more of that to come in future.

Stashing solar panels might be good idea as well as batteries to make electric conversion of 300, free driving at summers, albeit rarely and short distances :p

Well I expect my car to break for £4-4.5K, and am well on the way in little over a week. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near that price for parts even a year ago imo. Even my shell went very easily.

I definitley think they are begining to rise in value/interest. They're still cheap compafed to other stuff though.

There are only 3 (three) 360s on sale right now here, prices 750 800 1200 (was 1400), two cheaper ones are rusty, middle one has dents too, most expensive one is only one that is in some kind of ok condition, all of these are base models with b200k.

Citroen C5 prices starts from around 1400 now, 1999-2000 Ford Focus are same price with 360s. Similar age Rover 200 with 1.4 around 1850-2600, only two of those, might be tad expensive compared to your prices?
