Bump! Outstanding work that man :) All credit to Retro Rides for noticing that Volvos are becoming a hit on the retro scene - first Chesh's car, now this!

But...funny how you couldn't pull away from Nessy with that 90-100 estimated bhp sm56 ;)

cheers

Pretty much the same actually - the more worrying thing is that Nessy was pretty much staying on my back bumper

Don't forgot how close Kar kept up with your black GLT at MK Steve ;)

Next time we meet up, lets try Fake against the saloon, I want to see how far off it is.

It wont be far off atall, the saloon is slower than it should be at the moment.... I think it's only really once you're into third that the 360's start to show their performance differences.

Exactly...weight is a massive factor in the lower gears, whereas power vs aerodynamics becomes dominant as speed rises. I can pwn Rupert off the line (in the 360), but above the legal limit he's probably got me beaten (at the moment).

The 340 is pretty fast at low speeds (and tractable...a combo which makes it hard to beat off the line, much like a carb 360, while an injection one seems a bit more RPM-laggy), but its rate of progress slows down massively as you speed up, and is reluctant to accellerate much at all above 80mph, unless it feels like it (read: down a hill with the wind behind it).

cheers

I am really quite concerned about the performance of the injection 360s - something has never seemed quite right in both of mine - fine above 3k rpm, but lacking in torque at anything below that it seems to me.

Sounds like there is no A-cam, but something wilder if it starts to go after 3000rpm, with stock injection for example K-cam causes quite low low end torque.

The car is completely standard, although I failed to mention that it pulls strongly in the right gear at most rpm's, it only feels sluggish when under load. I do have a blowing exhaust, but its not *that* bad.

LE-jet... I reckon. Someone gave the task of designing it to a mech/aero engineering dude, and there grasp of analogue electronics is about the same as the average art student...

It's all down to LE jet. If nothing else, as it's not lambda corrected, when the engien starts wearing e.g. injector flow rates change, and start to overfuel etc, it's can't recalibrate itself. I bet a fully rebuilt engine, with new absolutly everything, on stock LE jet, would be fine, just standard Volvo detuned.
