Agreed - I'd never go back to my Sciroccos either, although were fun blatting about London in. That said, VW's are popular cars and the Golf GTi will always make better money than a GLT in similar condition. That's because 300's are our little secret (shhhh....)

well as I said Chris (sky ) my son had the GTI for £600 which is well below the market price but he is my son after all , he sold his corsa for £1,650 and has since bought a set of team dynamics monzas for it and is replacing all the lights with crystal ones and getting a badgeless grille , hes also planning a mega ice install so his corsa money will soon be gone.
we may keep the auto or sell the cali and buy a gti for julie to drive , not sure yet

If the interiors in VW's of that era were acceptable, they'd be ok cars. But the interiors are budget in terms of quality and equipment - and it's not a budget car of its time!
GTi trim looks like base spec

stuck the 17's on and serviced the golf , now to start with the ice install, smoked lights etc,
just not sure whether to keep the small bumpers or go for the big bumper look

It's really quite surprising just how fast a mk2 golf auto goes if you floor it hard - mind you mine was the 1.8 (shame it would never start)

no mate. i know exactly what youre saying. you dont get the same 'kick' when you floor it and it gets into the powerband and when you change gear. also no transmission noises like engine braking etc. manual for life!
and you cant get them to wheelspin either - although i did manage it ONCE on a 1.6 almera somehow...
