Re: 340 V8 project - update 11/04
Hey fellas, don't worry about the weight of the engine, these things are MAD LITE compared to a redblock! Torque could be a challenge, IIRC a 3.5 has 250ish lbft, There have been many turbo redblocks with that sort of torque (xtrmjks's 350+hp 360???). Go for it Dave, I reckon the structure of the car is well up to the job, and I'm a failed engineer who likes a drink.

Engine going in for a measure up.......
its s tight squeeze.

I started modifying the sump too, the flange has been cut off and the sump rotated round, I need to take off a couple of inches to clear the steering rack.

A little bit of sump welding

the wheels I have collected are a bit special, they are 8 x 15 wellers that have had 5x108 volvo centre welded into them. they have 205/55/15 tyres stretched over them. I plan to repaint them - Im thinking a bronzey gold colour like old ferrari wheel gold or something.
there are some chrome volvo centre caps to go over the centre....

any way.
I will need to fit 240 front struts to fit the wheels, this I dont think will be too much of a problem, i will make a new bottom arm, cut and shorten the strut assembly and refit a shoter daper insert to maintain the 340's existin ride height. I have to modify the steering rack anyway (I might add power steering as the wheels are VERY wide). I will also need ot flare the arches out and add about 4 inches of outer arch to cover the 'poke' of the wheel ,
The wheels have about 5 inches of dish and roughly poke out about 3 inches before arch rolling etc.

wheels fitted to refurbished back axle.

its 67 inches wide from rim to rim. - quite a bit more than the factory I reckon its going to poke outside the existing arches at about 3 inches either side.
it has 205/55/15 on the rear and 195/50/15 on the front.
Im giong silver lip with gold middle.
project on hold pending the purchase of a set of 240 front struts.
