I was wearing a face guard but it was actually metal dust from afterwards that found its way into the eye. It was about 6 hours later that the pain started. So the main point is HAVE A SHOWER AFTER WORKING ON CARS

Good advice dude.

Also, "beer goggles" do not qualify as protective equipment.

Stay safe kids.

Make sure they are indirectly vented goggles too, i had a near miss with my rust ring experience :P
Those sparks bounce around like anything and pop through the vents easily, I wouldn't rely on just a face visor. I do wear one, as well as goggles although it's very awkward at times. Goggles won't stop larger bits of metal or exploding disks.
Also be careful when hitting metal with hammers/chisels. When I bought my new goggles, visor etc. I was told a horror story about a bloke who was hitting something with a hammer. A splinter shot off it, through his goggles and into the back of his eye, they didn't find it in there till it was too late to save it. I've spent enough time waiting at the hospital and worrying about my eyesight not to give a second thought about making sure I'm safe.

Well I was thinking keep the guard and get some snowboarding goggles with clear perspex in them, that way there's no possible way of anything getting past the seal. That or indirectly vented goggles like you say.

You've got to watch out for those rusty rings

I've passed this many times and failed to get a pic but i have now so here you go.
Mk1?

Southcoast boys, i was working in Fordingbridge last week and spotted a pale blue Mk1 comntaining an old couple, i'd guess the original owners which looked in nice condition. In contrast to that i saw the most awesome Lichen covered white 240 estate, really wish i'd got a pic of that!

Thats well spotted, I'm sure thats a MK 1. Fordingbridge car sounds interesting, could it be an very early R or S reg? Probably not if it was pale blue, mine was quite a dark metallic blue, I think the pale blues were a bit later.

Oh the mean streets of Surrey (see posh) have 300's seemingly coming out of knowwhere, well i say that as i've seen 4 in the last week not including mine.

But i only managed to capture two of those.

The first being this rather clean and tidy 1.7 parked outside the local Library, was a really nice colour but the bright sun and my mobile as a camera do it no justice:

The second one captured in the wild was this morning in a carpark so i did what was only right, parked next to it and took some snaps:

This one was far from tidy, see the rust hole right through the bonnet, also had a big plate welded on the back of the passenger cill.

It was a Catlyser or whatever it is aswell

Wow, what a superb pic :-) There's another one in the background too. Is that an Irish numberplate?

Cheers

Yeah its Irish, I didn't spot this unfortunately. It's over on RR where there appears to be quite a few mk1/2s. I think the scrapyard owner is a bit of a collector, keeps them until they become soil
