Re: Volvo SR360
Lots of updates ill get pics tommorow.
B19 Is nearly out, its just the clutch cable that i cant get loose near the bellhousing thats giving me resistance at the mo. Ive stripped off the whole front end including wings. Found lots of rust on the inner wings plus my drivers side wing fell to bits it was that badly riddled with rust so i DESPERATLY need a drivers wing.
Luckily for me the rot on the inner wings were on areas that wernt structual and was a good excuse to shed a few kgs so ive chopped them off with a grinder. I then wire brushed all of the surface rust back to bare metal then sprayed in zinc primer and painted up in silver hammerite.
Also opened up the covers where fog lights sit, this is to run brake ducking. Going to incorporate a vent on the back of the wing to allow heat to escape. I know some things on the car will look gash but its all going to have a practical purpose.
Brought a load of suspension bushes and parts of dai, ill show more details soon. Gota finish removing the engine then i get on with tidying and painting the bay

Haha Mitch get your trainers out!!
More updates today. Stripped the interior out:

As this car is only ever going to get driven to and from shoes and tracks Ive completly removed all the heaters and blowers. Going to run a small electric heater run on a switch so i can de-mist the windows. Obviously its now left me with a bit of a hole i need to get welded up or a bolt on panel made up:

With this car im trying hard to concentrate on the main strength of this car, weight. As again im ditching the heaters ive stripped all the venting etc from behind the dash

Found some bad rust behind the dash, wheel arch has been repaired (badly) at some point, tommorow going to take a wire brush to it and see how deep it goes. may need to cut and get someone to weld(dunno if pics show it as light was fading)

Found another bodge by a previous owner. Removed rood lining and confirmed my suspiscion that the sun roof wasnt factory. The strengthing panel that goes inside the roof has been attempted to be removed when they failed they took a gringer to it

Now gota source another one as even if i put a cage in the car id still want it there.

Re: Volvo SR360
If that strengthening bar is the one I'm thinking of, it's a bolt-in, and missing on the cars with factory tilt/slide sunroofs...so perhaps not a massive need to panic.
Is the rust around the base of the A-pillars? If so, that's a favourite spot, and you'll need to get it repaired properly - it's a pretty important part of the car, strength-wise.
cheers
James

Re: Volvo SR360
well thats good news. think im still going to replace it though as it may help rigidity..maybe
nah the rust is in the wheel arch, level with the bonnet pull. its been repaired really badly by a previous owner. infact every repair ive seen so far has been poor. my pillars have started with gentle surface rust, its on my job to do list. was hoping to wait till windscreens out

Re: Volvo SR360
So is this a 365 or do they not exist? Early quarter light doors, what dash did it have ?

Best appreciated when open.
I probably should have specified ladies legs in there too. [+=] "embarrarrased emoticon"[].com

Re: Volvo SR360
No such thing as a 365 badge-wise...the "3" and "5" badges lasted until 1982, and the quarterlights were still there in 1983 for the first year of the 360s.

Hi sammy.
Your project seems to be coming along great.
I used to be against this sort of thing , however since
becoming an official old fart last May
, i have mellowed.
Have you any plans for the stromberg ?
Good luck with the build.
Cheers Mark.

Re: Volvo SR360
I think it should be good. Im hoping to get 170 bhp out of the sr20de and get sub 800kg from the chasis. Brake wise im going to re-build calipers and use grooved discs and some kind of track pads along with brake ducting im hoping i can avoid brake fade which is my major worry at the mo.
Taken the engine out today. Im a idiot though didnt realise there was a engine dampner so spent 30 mins trying to pull it out with that still atached!lol
As regards to the old carb, no i was going to sell it with the inlet, you intrested? looks like its been cared for as the oil in the carb was topped up and looked fresh which is better than most ive seen

Re: Volvo SR360
Silly question, i need a new wing, struggling to find mk2 wings SO if i go mk3 wings, do i need to use a mk3 front bumper? Or could i keep the mk 2 bumper and long slim panel?
Re: Volvo SR360
The Mk2 and Mk3 wings are identical, bar the Mk3 wings don't have the holes for the side repeater like Mk2's have - simple solution, drill new holes to match the old wing that comes offsammysideways wrote:Silly question, i need a new wing, struggling to find mk2 wings SO if i go mk3 wings, do i need to use a mk3 front bumper? Re: Volvo SR360
I didnt think the Mk 3 used that long thin panel on the front either? Ive forgoten if it attaches to the wing though, it doesnt does it
Re: Volvo SR360
I think it may just tuck behind, or push into a slot which you may have to cut out of a Mk3 wing - regardless a Mk3 will definitely fit a Mk2 with only minor adjustmentssammysideways wrote:I didnt think the Mk 3 used that long thin panel on the front either? Re: Volvo SR360
The Mk 2 wing has a kind of tab sticking out with a plastic blob thing which pushes onto a hole in the thin front strip. I think I've got that the right way round. Don't think the Mk 3 has the tab or blob.
