Foggyjames and Fuel....

Some of the older members here will remember the occasion in which Foggy ran out of fuel at a V3M Meet and tried to blame his Renix unit.

They may also remember that less than a month later he ran out again.........

Now, a few years later but along the same line comes.........;

I had a call on Friday from a certain Foggyjames who was currently relaxing in a bus stop just outside Radcliffe-on-Trent on the A52 to say that his V70 D5 had expired.

Apparently he left Newark and stopped off to get fuel but due to the exorbitant prices he only put £10 worth in figuring he'd make Nottingham and a cheap Petrol Station with no problems. By the time he got to Bingham the car had started to run rough and eventually went into 'limp-home' mode so he pulled over in said bus stop to try and diagnose the problem whereupon the car wouldn't re-start. After a call to Ben (V70Ben from T5D5) to see if he had any ideas the RAC were called to attempt rescue. Having sat and pondered a bit longer as the possible causes he had an epiphany and duly cancelled the RAC and rang Tim Williams (a known FWD Guru) instead.

Tim came out to him to drain his fuel tank and lines because the £10 worth he put in was 95 unleaded NOT diesel!!!!!!!

Good job it wasn't £30 then, or even worse a full tank :P

Easily done, my mate did it the other week, I did it last year too

It's easy to do when you regularly drive several vehicles with different fuels.

I really have to look carefully and think about it every time, one distraction and it's too late!

Easy to do maybe, but I don't get it myself. Drive lots of different vehicles of different fuel requirements and never done it.

The last place I worked at, every agency driver bar one managed to stick petrol in the minibus. None of us employed drivers did and one was a petrol/LPG version.

I've run out of petrol plenty of times though!

I once filled my renault traffic up with £25 worth of petrol and then panic'd and put £80 worth of diesel on top of it! lol

we had to rock the van side to side to get it to start all week lol it was ok after that :)

Oh you bitch, I didn't see that this was here too!

Yes, I cocked up. I can't believe I did it...I'm really not the type! My excuse is two-fold...I hadn't put fuel in the D5 in 3 weeks, but had probably used a petrol pump 10+ times in that period, fuelling the V70R and 343 R-Sport (mainly the latter...small tank + 25mpg = limited range)...so I was out of practice. I was also thinking about DJing at Griz (from Tbricks)'s wedding, and quietly fretting about what I'd forgotten (which, it turned out, was nothing). Oh, and I'm an idiot sm56

The problem was that the rescue party failed to seal the tank properly, so I lost a further £20 or so in leakage. Grr!

Oh, and I ran out of fuel 3 times....get it right! Twice in quick succession following the twin carb swap (sheer shock at halving my range), and once years later after draining the tank, and failing to believe it was possible to use half a can in about 2 miles. sm56

cheers

James
