Would anyone be intrested in FRP wings?

Post by sammysideways » 21 Aug 2011 08:47 pm

When i was drifting my RX7 FD i had a sponsor who could make FRP panels etc.

Now at the mo im after a good condition non rusty wing, with the lack of good ones around is it worth me enquiring about them producing some fibreglass wings for us? I know id deffo have some but unsure if theres much intrest?

I just wanted to get numbers as i know they will wanna see there is a demmand before they make some.

Ive sent them a msg, ill see what happens. If that dont work ill get there email address and we can all pester them. There going to be lighter, available of the shelf and never have to worry about rust again.

Aye it's for the rust side of things i'd be interested in them for. Seems a very good idea, i'm sure a fair few people will be interested, these days its all down to the cost though

Not so much interested in cost as fit. I've seen way to many fibreglass panels (wings especially) that make cars look awful. Granted I havn't yet started printing my own pictures of the Queen, but having something cost a tenner then spending another 4 days to make it fit just doesn't interest me at the moment!

^ Yep. Loads of FG panels have terrible fit.

Plus wouldn't you need mint original wings to use for a mould, and I bought the last pair of those.

How are you planning to do it?

Ok, i have some more details for you.

wings will cost 200 pounds. They will need a 50 pound non refundable deposit. they will be using stock wings to make the mould so the fit should be very good. frp wings are only a problem if its a mould made from cheap copys etc. I have one mint wing and im trying to source another for them to use, unless somebody has a pair there happy to lend me?

for this to go ahead i need 5 more orders otherwise its not financially viable them making them. I know 200 pounds sounds alot, but how many mint wings are left??im trying to get us a constant supply of rust free, easily repairable wings sm4

afraid 200 quid's way over my budget, especially as my current wings are solid

Do Hadrian (or even Volvo) not still do them?

They don't Chris. Hence my struggle to track some down.

Dunno about the place that manufactures them for Hadrian though, Klockensomething. Trabitom is the man for that!

I personally never tried Volvo.
