Speeding
Re: Speeding
If you are sure that you did not speed, I think it is worth to try, at least in here they are known to make errors at times.

Re: Speeding
Look online for a letter template of what you need to ask for. As if they cannot respond within the time frame you give them; then its null and void as you are etitled to the information.
I had one chucked out for that. doing 37 in a 30.

Hey adam, I am not too sure what this letter is? I have got a letter asking for my drivers lisence number and confirming its me. I havnt sent it back yet.

Re: Speeding
make sure its not a scam.. phone the DVLA and ask them about it.
if its kosher you want proof the speed camera was calibrated on the day it clocked you, it needs to be calibrated in a home office approved way or it's not admissible as evidence.
Also the radar is not accurate even when calibrated, if the operators hand wobbles when taking the reading the reading can be 17%+ out and the 300's are particularly hard to read (many different materials at different angles in a small area around the grille) - ask for a copy of this "evidence" they hold on you and see if the crosshair of the radar moves around, if it moves more than a few inches the reading is duff and cant be used as evidence or at least can be easily contested.

Hi Evoman.
If they offor you a speed awareness course, TAKE IT.
For a few more quid, it will keep the points of your licence.
Cheers Mark.

Re: Speeding
they do that to confirm it was actually the owner of the car driving at the time of the speeding offence, because obviously anyone could contest a fine and say that the car was TWOC or stolen at the time of the offence and therefore someone else driving!.Evoman wrote:Hey adam, I am not too sure what this letter is? difficult one to argue if you still own and in possession of your car!.
I would argue it was the elusive Lord Lucan in the driving seat & he must've left it back outside my door before i awoke and ate my cornflake's!
I had my point's removed after 4 long year's, i now just drive everywhere at just below the speed limit, speed fine's are biggest scam of the 21st century IMO.

Don't own a Volvo atm, might be looking another?

Re: Speeding
I'm driving slower than most grandpas around here, speed fines here have gone to just silly, there is no any difference where or when you speed, also what is speeding has changed too, before there was good marginal, but nowdays it is quite tight, also as our court system is such that speeding automatically seem to make you blamed party, it is just easier to drive too slow, if everyone would do so it would be only matter of time until limits would be rised to more sensible level.dubweiser666 wrote: they do that to confirm it was actually the owner of the car driving at the time of the speeding offence, because obviously anyone could contest a fine and say that the car was TWOC or stolen at the time of the offence and therefore someone else driving!.

I did use bicycle for many months about a year ago and also did some really long trips, anyway after that I learned to appreciate driving a car much more, one don't need to do anything, just sit and wait as car does all the work, so what is the rush really? After that I have not been frustrated because there are slower drivers ahead or those that are too afraid to actually drive, I just keep my distance and observe life around me, wondering how grass knows to grow green or stupid things like that, nothing really bothers me anymore on road, even I can tell how there are lot of errors and faults happening all the time and sometimes I do see some genuine idiots too.
I'm doing my best to help other drivers that wish to go faster, so I signal when it is ok to pass and generally try to make as little slow down to their travel as possible, by doing that I have found many happy faces around me, which is much nicer than typical red ones with yelling gestures.
I consider traffic as team work where all have common goal and if everyone would do best to help others to get to their destination as smoothly as possible it would make a flow that helps oneself too.
Videos from traffic of Vietnam or India do look quite impressive, there people seem to be working as one, even it does look chaotic at first, when looking closer it looks almost perfect way to move, like swarm of fishes really.
This has also lead me to think that our tight norms and rules are most reason for traffic jams with so small amount of vehicles and here also this attitude where speed is thing being controlled and almost nothing else matters, is really not so good, but right way to change things is to write those that are making rules, it has probably as little effect as speeding, but at least if someone crashes to me, I'm not one to be blamed.
