LPG question.
Firstly, please forgive my ignorance on this subject.
Ok, who knows about LPG, LPG systems, and LPG maintenence?
I know how to fill it up and press the switch button. Here ends my knowledge. So.....
Been tracking my MPGs using free generic mobile phone app.
all over same driving conditions....
Last tank= 24.81 mpg
Tank before= 26.58 mpg
Tank before that= 27.01mpg.
So it seems im going downhill. Quite fast.
Other that general servicing (which is not due) is there anything else obvious that could be sapping MPG?
Ive checked Tyre pressures and theyre bang on spec.
Is there a generic LPG service that needs done intermitently?

Re: LPG question.
Best ask a fitter but I'd say maybe you've got a dodgy wheel bearing? Something's dragging.
Re: LPG question.
strange one that shouldnt you be getting alot more mpg effectively on gas like 40mpg because of the price difference
ive working on a discovery 4.0ltr v8 on gas and that does effectively 30mpg
wheel bearings one there way out for a guess as it could produce more drag
i dont think lpg systems need servicing but im not lpg smart

Cheers man.Speedy88 wrote:Best ask a fitter but I'd say maybe you've got a dodgy wheel bearing? Something's dragging.
Nothing else to suggest thats the case. No noise, wheels dont rock on jack and I dont think the brakes are rubbing either.....
Which is why I thought it might be combustion related.

Yeah man, thats ACTUALL mpg. So double it if youre comparing on price.mat_91 wrote:strange one that shouldnt you be getting alot more mpg effectively on gas like 40mpg because of the price difference

Dont think its a bearing or brakes. Though could be wrong....
Re: LPG question.
what car/engine is it injection/carb
have you done a compression check one could be low so wouldnt burn fully and had it on a gas analyser to see if its running rich

Re: LPG question.
After driving touch and feel your wheels and find out if they have started to warm up
Just be bit cautious, they can be quite hotties!
Brakes can cause decrease in mpg without one even noticing how coasting seem not to be as good as before, one have to keep pedalling even on downhill, reason is brakes get stuck a bit, it gets worse and worse. It is not too difficult or even expensive to get brake servicing done when it is done enough early, but it does require taking brakes apart and then some cleaning and lubricating to make everything slide back and forth without too much of resistance. Also when brake pads are getting worn piston enters so deep that it gets bit tight in there and backing up provides bit difficult, nothing that good honing would not cure, but it takes few hours tires off and car up + saddles at bench, will save money back in a year for sure.

Re: LPG question.
Thanks for that J.
Ill check wheel temp next time I do a long run.
Ive learned on the VOC forum that the LPG system should have its own fuel filter, and that running LPG does go through plugs quicker, so I think it just need a full service.
I'll try that, check what J suggested, do a tank and report back!
Cheers all.
