Hi all I'm new here

Post by Cliché Guevara » 22 Jan 2012 06:05 am

Hello everyone.I am looking at a 360 glt in white 1986/7. Its got 184000 kms on it 2000cc but needs new clutch. Is it a tough job to do?

I consider myself to be a fairly competent mechanic,I have always been into MK1 Renault 5s so have done my time with the unusual.

Also what should I be looking for?It claims to be a 1 grandmother owner, which could back up the clutch story. No offence to grannies out there

Any info would be helpful,so far the only stuff I have read has been the write up that was in Retro cars mag which seemed positive.

Cheers

I felt retro cars write up was well done (but i would lol) others did seem to feel the same. Some other things to check is the spring cups and jacking point, check they are not rotten.

I hear varying stories on how easy it is to do the clutch so i cant answer that question really.

Its not particularly hard, but as with most things the manual is essential.

Mainly disconnect the clutch housing from the engine (gearstick, gearbox mounts and front pin) and pull the whole drive assembly back off the engine supporting the gearbox at the back, the clutch end will drop down.

^^^ Why make life hard for yourself? Just pull the engine out, it's easier than removing the drivetrain trust me.
