Engine mounts being solid?

I post this here as here is more traffic anyway and I will probably just wander to OT anyway after a while...

I tried to lift motor a bit from my 360 as oil pan is touching that beam where ARB is supported to, problem is that whole front end of car is lifting up, there is no any movement in motor, so it seems to me that engine mounts are rather solid, should not be like that?

Maybe they are frozen or rusted, I don't know, but I would need to get engine lifted a bit so that I could start removing those engine mounts and apply fix for them.

some can be very stiff like range rover v8s and my 5 series bmw was rock hard if you want to raise it i put some normal washers to lift it up worked a treat

Are you sure the front bar is not bent? This happened to mine after I jacked it there.

The MK3 Glycol mounts are fairly stiff, they did away with the engine and diff dampers in the MK2 (I think, but then the MK2/MK3 is not a clean change over).

Also if the mounts are sagging the exhaust is likely to touch the suspension crossmember.

Sure it can be bent too, someone before my time has jacked up from it as there is flat part at middle, must check that exhaust if it is touching then, thx from the tip!

That front beam is quite bad condition anyway, haven't been able to source new one, don't know if it is possible to fix it by welding and bending/cutting/welding more. If I can sort that, rust, petrol return line leak and get installed those strut top mounts, then it might be ready for MOT attempt. Oh and front brake discs need replacing, I have new parts already, just building up courage to start replacing them, probably there is difficult to gain bolts and of course they are stuck, which annoys me a lot.

Well lot to do, but no rush really, still have two months or so time, maybe three...
