Got all excited watching that clip. Seems like they are going to spin it negatively though :|

Have any of you seen "Too Fast To Race"? Or "Still Too Fast To Race"?

Crummy editing but superb documentaries. Shame you can't turn off the people speaking and just listen to the cars as they drive flat out :)

I great watch but I did come away felling a little angry that such a great sport was runined by poor oranisation but the blame was passed onto too much power/speed!

Rallying at that time was a acident waiting to happen. There had been pleanty before hand but with the group B cars bringing in bigger crowds and this combined with the new increased speed then things were bound to go wrong. It was clear from the drivers that the group B days were the best.

I think group B was great for teh manufactures - would audi have ever made the quatro if group B had never existed? I think not. No quatro would probably also mean no Subaru! The word would be a differnt place.

The program did cover both sides but I did feel the blame was shifted to the cars and the exream speed/power of them. Typical speed is dangerous rubbish.

The real problem was no one was taking resbonibility for safety

Wish it could come back and push the boundries again

There was an awful lot of footage I hadn't seen before, I'm surprised the BBC didn't put a warning up tbh as none of the new stuff was exactly happy. Very good program however, well worth the watch.

The onboard footage of Walter Rohl in 85 shows some of the Portugual crowds

Nice link Chris.

I would have also expected a warning as some of the crash sceans were a little sickening but needed showing i think to hit home the dangers involved.

Also just had a look at soem more recent footage and IMO the crowds are still far to close for comfort. I would not feel comfortable giving it the all with spectators so close.

With the way things wer in Portugal there is just now way I would race with half teh crowd in the path! You do not need to see footage of anyone getting hurt to know that something is going to go wrong.

I do prefer the level of control that is offered by track racing. Sadly most fans have little sense of self preservation and have no idea of the dangers they expose themselfs to. What is woring for teh future of rallying is in days gone by it was ok to let ppl think for themselvs but now anyone who has an acident through there own stupidity can still claim compo!

Just watching it now on iplayer. Crazy times! I remember going to a spectator stage at Clumber Park in 1985 or 6. The noise of the cars was amazing, it made your chest rattle!

For foreign viewers without a UK proxy IP for iPlayer and no access to it by "perfectly legal means", you can purchase the documentary from Duke Video.

If talking and music bothers, there is solution of true music of petrol with lead and other proper additives, injected to exhaust manifold and ignited with a bang to keep boost up, now how was supposed to bring sausages? I want test instant cooking one on those fox tails cars are spouting at gear changes :D :

From what I have experienced, the crowd control is now spot on (at least on UK events) and is, if anything, a little too overcautious (dare I say it).

Check this video out from 1997. Look like old habits die hard in Portugal!

Funny how Colin has issue with the spectators (and rightly so), but still drives flat out. Crazy man
