EFY Lives

Post by thebear54 » 23 Jul 2012 12:07 am

Yes, the news from the states is good news.

EFY (1982 343 manual) lives once more. :D After sitting for well over a year she was towed to DAF Central for some needed repairs.
Image
EFY had been down with a broken propshaft and missing the entire exhuast system. With the help of my shop lift we were able to finally get the shaft back on and begin to piece her exhaust back together.

Bob just did not have the facilities in Maine for the job so it was towed to Vermont (some 6 hours away)

EFY was running again (after an oil change, fuel filter change, minor tune-up and some fresh petrol in her tank) but she will be staying at DAF Central for a while longer until the other issues are resolved. She will be receiving a new Valance and two new front wings very soon. :D

Cheers Mark.

EFY is a really nice 343 with a few "Tin Worm" issues which should be taken care of soon.

I hope Bob will get on to explain how we managed to get the propshaft on....there is a trick to it. :D

This weekend Bob came down and we did a full brake inspection after I had finished intalling her final exhaust pieces.

Front discs were perfect (although surface rusted from lack of use). The rear brakes were fine as well and only required new shoe pins, springs and locking plates.
Bob took her for a good long run and she performed well.
I'll be taking EFY to work with me a few days this week to clean up those brakes.

Now to wait for those body bits sitting in Colchester so we can make her look pretty again. :D

It seems the climate over there hasn't been too kind! Hope there's no more hidden surprises

I really like this car - how long has it been over in the states?

Keep up the work, it's well worth it.

EFY has been here since, I beleive, 2008. (Steve P can confirm that)

I took her to work with me the other day and suddenly her ignition system went into cardiac arrest! :x :x
EFY had to be towed back to DAF Central. I am hoping to have a good long look to see why she is not getting spark to the Dizzy.

Yeah, 2008 seems to ring a bell to me - seems like a long time ago now! I believe before it went overseas Bob took it on a roadtrip to Scotland then back down to Southampton! If you need any early B14 ignition parts I may still have a new set of points/condensor for this engine, as I intended in fitting them!

Maine is not the best climate for any car Steve....although driving it during the Winter did not help her keep her body panels.

I beleive we have a more serious problem with EFY since there is no spark going to the Dizzy at the moment.
After I stop being angry with her I may try to locate the exact problems.

Luckily my own 343 runs like a Swiss watch now after many many hours of re-wiring most of the electrics.
