Well it was a choice between scrapping the 340 or making it into a project which i've always wanted to do, looks like for now the parents are ok with me taking up half the drive

so I made a start on it this weekend, removed everything from the rear of the car (other than the roof lining yet) and started chisling the sound proofing off, managed to get about 1/3 of the rear done which took about 2hours! Hopefully get the interior taken down the dump tomorrow and rip the carpets out along with any unnecessary bits and pieces. Its all going to move slowly due to hefty amounts of uni work but i'll post pics as it evolves, not sure on engine yet but probably going to be R5 powered as long as my parents don't want their drive back anytime soon!
cheers

Good work! It'll be an interesting project! If only I could persuade my parents to use up grass space!

Nah keeping the bonnet, the engine *should* fit without needing to touch the bonnet but if not i'll deal with that when I come to it lol, the main thing im trying to do now is sort the interior, got most of it stripped now other than front door cards (couldn't quite fit the whole interior of it into the 360!). Looks like theres some damn thick sound proofing under the front carpet from what I could see but haven't removed the carpet yet as that won't fit in the car either lol, once all the sound proofing is out its time for some "additional bracing"

cheers

for more wate loss have you thought about cutting any usless mettal out the doors you also want to replace glass with perspecs (spelt rong i think)
TIDYWILLSON@HOTMAIL.COM is selling a hole r5gt turbo he is after £200 the gear box is fked but as you wont be needing that bit it could be good .
if you email him tell him maxlee of c-sidecruisers told you about the car he might be able to sort you out
to help the car get side ways run the back tyres with 40psi+ in them
its all about the tramp drifitng

I'm a loooong way off needing to pump the tyres up yet! I did think about cutting out other bits of metal but for the little bit of weight its going to lose I don't know that I want to weaken parts of the car. Just got the carpet out, I can't believe how much stuff there is under the carpets, aswell as the usual soundproofing there's also more rubber mats, more carpet and some thick sticky black spongey stuff, right pain to get off. Should be a decent weight saving though! Cheers about that R5 engine but i'm a long way off doing any swaps yet and as i'm already pushing my luck for drive space i'll probably just be after an engine rather than a whole doner car,
cheers

As Ali says Steve

I was going to dump the manifold on a couple of years ago, but never got round to it, will be intresting to see, as it should be a relatively easy job.....

Well thats what I thought.. I just don't expect there to be any clearance issues... surely an R5 underbonnet area is less capacious.

Well I could go for keeping the same engine and using the manifolds, turbo, carb, etc from the R5 but thats only going to allow for 5-6psi boost and i've got no idea how much power thats going to produce, then the only tricky bits are cutting and flipping the manifold, oil feed for the turbo and sorting out the fuel lines which shouldn't be a problem as i'll probably run an alloy tank inside the car anyway, but then I don't know if my clutch is going to be up to the job!
Come on Nate, get on with it
cheers

If you can get hold of some liquid nitrogen, pour it onto your floor pan - all the crud should chip straight off (So I've been told)

that stuff is quite dodgy and has to be handled very carefully it would
probably take out the floorpan too, still at least you could sell the car to

just a thought , I bet stone age drifting was really harsh on the feet LOL

Hahahaha, yeah i've read that on the net aswell, not sure how much it costs though so i'll probably just stick to chisling it all off, takes a while but I need it to so that my cash can build up for the next piece of the project!
cheers
