Its getting little bit old, rust is on the driver and rear passenger doors, left front fender is rusty on the bottom.. the ventilator don´t work smoothly (stalling).Front windshield is messy(will be replaced in month). Not good starting at all (new igniton cables putted few days ago, starting still bad-mistake somewhere else).brakes are good, engine is little bit lazy but for 22 yrs old car its excellent (i beleive there is less horsepower than 105 which is in the papers).Fuel consumption is horrible in the city (10-12 litres on 100km,on highway 9 ltrs. approx.).It needs new radiator which has leak.I have put new exhausts (except pipes),the rear shocks needs to be replaced immediately, the reverse lights not working (i think its the switching device on the transmission),the turning flashers dont want to return back.. they need to be put back manually (in city its horrible thing). The steering was replaced, because the old was simply wrong.

I have some questions guys.. for what is the diod at the upper left section on dashboard?.. it turns on after 2000 rpm and turns of if i hit gas harder..and another question: what is the wheels pitch on this volvos?.. i need to buy a new wheels for summer and keep the old on winter tires.

The diode is the gearchange indicator. It is hooked to the Renix ignition unit I believe and tells you what the best point is to change gear. It'll come on early if you're driving gently and later if you drive it hard.

The wheel size are probably 13x5 but someone else will be able to confirm later :)

Hi and welcome.

The indicators ( direction flashers) not going off will probably be the steering wheel in the wrong position / stalk loose / or the plastic notch broken. You can check this by removing the plastic cover from under the steering wheel.

Welcome to the forum.

Nice looking car, like the color of it.
Do not worry about the direction indicators, my are broken for over 12 years. We got used to pull them back manually.

And that diode, as pettaw said, indicates the perfect shift of the gear. ( if you're driving too slow it flash and warn you to change to lower gear, and on high rpm it warn you to change up the gear ).

BTW pettaw, do you know how to check or repair that gear indicator ? My won't stop flashing, like it's jammed ?

Thanks

Tacho

Post by Kingfisher » 28 Feb 2007 12:03 pm

and my tacho is broken.. its not working (speedometer and km counter) ... both of them starts to work at the time together... speedometer and km counter.. then the needle falls down and not working (at the same time like counter..) .. so where is the failure?.. under the dashboard,or the speedometer drive is broken? and what is the wheels pitch on Volvo 3xx?..

Comparing my volvo to a hatchback... ( randomly found on a street :-) )

It's more than likely broken where it enters the back of the hub through the rubber grommet part. I had a cable that would suddenly spring into life, then on cornering it would pull out again and stop working. When I removed it that was where the break was due to the pressure and angles of turning the wheels over time.

A new cable shoudl cure it. It might be worth checking the bayonet fitting on the back of the speedo unit under the dash, as these sometimes break, and hold on one or no clips at all. It sounds like it's more likely the other end somewhere.

It could just be a case it needs pushing properly into the hub. I have had the problem when I have nto reasembled the unit properly.
