Yes, that's what he did. Until Rupert spots this, I can tell you a fair bit about it. What do you want to know?

You need the bellhousing from a V6 manual car (very early 760, or 260), and various other bits the bobs. The box itself is just a standard M46 with the V6 bellhousing fitted. The prop was from...er...something random...a 7/940 5-speed (M47)? If it's a B280 powered car, you'll need to get a suitable flywheel machined for the timing marks. Good luck finding a bellhousing!

Rupert is currently having clutch slip issues, and we're not sure if it's due to the natural limitation of the stock clutch, or whether there's something wrong with this car.

cheers

The box needs to be form a V6 as the shaft is thicker than on a 240. The bit that goes into the thrust bearing a few mill thinner than the V6 one.

Found that problem when I went to fit a 260 box to a 240 it wont work. Its also less hassle - I've got a couple of manual V6 boxes about

Now that is odd, because the input shaft has been really well stuck in the pilot bearing when we've had to remove Rupert's box. Perhaps he used a redblock pilot bearing, and they happen to be the same external diameter?

Rupert is running the M46 which used to live in Ryan's 740 turbo...but with the V6 bellhousing swapped on.

There was also a Getrag option (niiiice and strong) for the first couple of years of 260s, but those are super rare.

First couple of years....75/76? It'll look nothing like an M46, so should be pretty obvious.

Yep, I've got a B280E with a M46 behind it in a Mk2 760.

I've used;

B28E flywheel with triggers machined for the EZ-115K ign system.
260/760 B28 clutch pack and slave cyl.
260's bellhousing.
260's gearlinkage.
740 Turbos M46.
New B28 pilot bearing.
740's M47 front half of prop.
740's clutch pedal, braket and brake pedal.
940's clutch master cyl and lines.

Also had to fabricate gearbox mounting brackets as the correct B28 760 ones are no longer available. Also had to move to a 940's brake servo and master cyl to get space for the clutch master cyl.

Originally it had a 260's M46 but that leaked like a seive and was nosiy so was swapped for a 740 Turbo's M46. It was the 260's M46 that was a tight fit in the pilot bearing, probably due to me not properly cleaning the input shaft - the 740Tic's one fits fine so there are no issues between input shafts re the 260/740 etc.

The pilot bearing is a different outer diameter to a redblocks one so you need the correct one (still available from Volvo).

The early '76/'77 260's did come with a M51 gearbox which is essentially a Getrag 262 box. It has a dogleg first gear and a direct ratio top gear. the getrag 265 commonly found in BMW 5 series cars can be mated to the M51's bellhousing to give an overdrive top if required.
