Lol thats typical aint it..!!

I know some guy asked me the same question when I asked about the monroe ones.. Any idea how good the KYB ones are?

Only reason is because I can get the compressor and control panel and its just a good gadget to have on the car.

Cheers for the advice though.

the question is: is it really worth it?

i doubt it. self-levellers always break. seen them on enough cars and the self levelness doesnt last long so people just disconnect the pipe.

kyb shocks are good from what ive heard. but apparently the monroe gas shocks are the best for these cars.

oh i swear i saw you a few nights ago or last week or something blasting up my hill and then a couple of hours later i saw you coming down again...
ive never managed to get over 60 from the petrol station up to the roundabout. i get 55 out of mums 1.2 punto and funnily enough i get the same out of the volvo. what the hell is the extra 800cc doing?!?!?

Yes they can be hassle, yes they can break, and yes it's something else to go wrong, however, it's quite pimp and sometimes very practical, and shouldn't cause too much grief if it's fitted properly.

I've had the Monroe kit fitted to my 360 for about 10 months now. It doesn't lose any pressure or air at all, as you don't need to do the connections up super tight, just nip them up.

If like the other week I had 5 people in the car, normally a 300 sits on it's arse so to speak, wallows and feels pretty bottomed out. It was a pleasure to drive, and nothing was likely to be too low to the ground.

They aren't a performance item, yes it'll lower it a bit compared to standard with minimal air in them, (don't run them empty of air) but it won't stiffen the suspension. It's good for ground clearance on bumpy roads or on a farm track where I went the other week, where I know the exhaust likes to touch the road in places, just pump it up a bit.

It's down to your needs really, they suit my car and needs quite well. A set of the Spax adjustables will be going in my other GLT I think....... Dai, I will be speaking with you soon I think!

Cheers guys for the info and tips, will have to have a shop around. It does suit my needs perfectly however as its not for a 'performance' purpose its just because my shocks are literally on their last legs and I found the monroe levellers to be quite 'cool'.

AMR: Lol geezer that probably was me but that was like a couple weeks back!!

Your car been serviced recently, if you want I can get it done for you and maybe fit your spoiler at the same time?

Cheers guys, will have to decide soon about the rears shocks!! Spax better than KYB?

lol nah servicings no problem for me. was working for over a year with my uncle in his garage until recently. the car needs a good service as i dont think its had one for a while, and i think the car still has its 20 year old original fuel filter on it as well lol.

thinking of painting the car soon, so i might do it myself then and put the spoiler on.

cars for sale anyway. stuck it up on trampdrift for £400 or £450 with paintjob. (its been a while since i last had a grilling hasnt it?)

jay that cant have been a couple of weeks back when i saw you. must have been last week.

if it isnt for performance, then just chuck on a set of normal shocks. for the same price of self levellers you could probably get gas shocks. come on mate your not a grandad like these old blokes here...

im not actually sure if spax is better or if kyb's better. maybe some other people will know.

How did it double in value in the time you've owned it?

I'd say Spax > KYB... I thought KYB were more OEM oriented? I certainly can't complain with the Spax on my car, great fun :D

Sorry, I couldn't find a way of posting the link to the actual item. You click on "Shop", then select make ("Hersteller") model & engine from the pulldowns. Shock absorbers are "Stossdämpfer" and then just have a look at the list under "Monroe".

I'm sure there're similar UK websites though.

I like the info saying: Monroe shocks are "not for police cars"

The KYBs on the rear of my 360 are certainly a lot stiffer than stock, but they're the 'Gas-A-Just' versions. There are at least 2 other versions and I think the 'Premium' ones are similar to OEM spec.

I got 'Premium' KYB's on my car, because they were very cheap - I really would not recommend them...

Don't KYB's have a tendency to self destruct? I know they're not recommended for larger cars (1300kg upwards) as they aren't particularly robust.
