340 for trike project

ok,
im after a 340 dl it can be mot failure, accident damaged ( but not cat A )
must have V5 docs, anything will be considered as long as the following is in fairly good order - engine, gearbox, rear suspension, drive shafts etc.
other option is that if someone has all the bits listed above then i will consider that as well
needs to be located in the herts, beds, area if possible as towing from the other end of the empire could end up costing more than the car.
last bit - i have put myself on a limited budget for the whole project from the start or this could end up running into thousands
budget undisclosed

you're more than welcome to take the shell of snowey once we're done with her, however the rear leaf springs will DEFINATELY be gone, and i think somone might be having the gearbox too..

Yo 5slab
thanks for the info, but i will not be needing a shell
I did think about Redlines car but it would be a shame to trash it just for the stuff underneath

buy this one off ebay and then sell on the "cherished "number plate to recover your out lay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1989-VOLVO-340-DL ... dZViewItem
from what I can see its the only 1.4 for sale in the country at the moment

yo redline
tell me about it, i do a search twice a day now + local adverts + salvage / scrap collectors.
i will have to check out a couple of bits i.e re - registration for a trike after carrying over a currently issued reg number.
also cash flow
if you want full asking then im not gonna be your bitch

Trix,
I've got a 1.7 that failed its MOT on welding recently. I know you need a 1.4, but I don't want much for the car & it seems to be in reasonable nick, other than the welding. Emissions were mentioned on the MOT, but the car was standing for 8 months beforehand, and they didn't let the engine warm up before testing it.
Then again, you won't want the engine.
Gearbox, suspension & brakes all seem to be fine - I drove the car 230 miles home & it drove fine & braked in a straight line. Nice & comfy, too - so comfy I've gone & got another one!
I'm away for 2 weeks starting this Saturday, but otherwise available, and I'm near Windsor in Berkshire.

Hi Andrew
yes i will need the engine as it will be car powered with a large bike front end, i did think about using a bike engine but there are some major issues on converting bike chain drive to a reliant prop shaft as for bike engines with shaft drive they are hard to get of a good one

why arent you going the more common tried and tested vw beetle route ?
is it just personal choice

Ahhhhhh Mr Redline
VWs been done loads of times, plus engine hangs over back axle so far that you can wheely down the road in 2nd gear
but not too good with kids on the rear bench seat, unless you want to loose them

see another benefit to using the beetle , I do remember the phoenix being rather light at the front end and it was quite easy to end up looking at blue skies if you know what I mean ,
a local tatooist to where I live has a chevy v8 engined trike in his garage , not much chance of getting the nose up on that monster lol

It's a funny thing: I find that if I need a 340 they're as hard to come by as rocking horse muck. On the other hand, once you've got one you're happy with world+dog seem to be selling mint examples of the things.
Have you tried the breakers? 340s often get scrapped for no good reason.
