idle problem when hot?

Post by turnbullj »

Hi All

When i was going to work the other week while slowing down for a junction my volvo just cut out on me and I could not get it started again luckly my mates mum was behind and gave me a lift into work and my mates gave me a lift back out, after the car had been sitting for 6 hours it started first time so i took off down the road then a cough bang and it died so had to get towed home by a rover
anyhow the rotor arm had snapped in half so chucked another one of them on and took it for a spin seemed to be running great untill it had been going for about 5-10mins when it died at a junction again luckily it started so took it straight home since then ive changed the dizzy cap, ht leads and plugs aswell and its running great until it gets hot then it just don't want to idle or slow down and when you go hard on the gas it just coughs and splutters then will eventually rev

anyone got any ideas? i just dont no enough about engines lol

Also where is my fuel filter? Some people have told me that not every car will have one but i would of still thought there should be one? Ive had a quick look and couldn't find anything

abit off topic aswell but can you get sump guards for a 340? Cause im gettin it lowered and some of the roads im on can be a bit rough when pushing on and that plastic bit underneath is only hanging on with a cable tie at the moment after i beached it on top of a roundabout lol so was just after something that might stop me ripping the engine out altho that would be a good excuse to put a valver in

Thanks James

i'd say a carb problem, but to figur out what the problem is (worn gaskets/membrames clugged jets etc) you'll have to take it apart, and the best way to do that is with a refurbishing kit for the carb laying next to it..

1.4 were standard never equipped with a fuel filter, just a tiny "siff" in the carb itself, you can place an universal fuell filter in the fuel feed to the carb though.

cheers pal, not had much time to have a look at it been at the jim clark rally al weekend, had a quick looks over before and I can't find any air leaks or anything started taking it to bits but then remembered that I know nowt bout carbs

i found that "sive" in the carb and its clean as a whistle, I still find it hard to believe that the fault is with the carb as it was running fine before the rotor arm went, but i'll have another look at it or failing that my sisters boyfriend has offered me a set of honda cbr6 bike carbs :D
