Re: Regards from Spain
I've just got repaired my beast. Injectors were a bit jammed, and now it works like new. I couldn't belive it when I drove it for a while. Now I love it more than ever.
I'm also planning to change the stereo. the car doesn't have a original volvo, and it's very badly installed, so no pity to swap it.
I'll post some new photos soon; I've cleaned it and now it almost looks like new, promise!
Regards!

Re: Regards from Spain
It might be a stupid question but... The transmission of my car is manual 5 vel, and I was wondering if the oil in it needs to be changed because the gears enter really badly

Re: Regards from Spain
It may not have enough oil. Did you check that?

The boxes on these are really stiff compared to most other cars, so maybe you just need to get used to it. It should be a bit rough between 1st and 2nd, but if it's really bad maybe there's a problem.

It's one of those things that hardly ever gets replaced, but a few people have changed it and found it made an improvement to shifting.
The main question is what oil to use, as the recommendation changed. This is from the Castrol Website:

Manual Transmission
Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B3
2.8 Litres
For older RWD models an alternative recommendation of Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B3 engine oil was made at the request of Volvo UK who do not wish TQF to be used in these applications, contrary to recommendations in vehicle handbooks

Re: Regards from Spain
Red stuff is perhaps bit too thin and comes out from tinyest imperfection of gasket, motor oil should make box quieter, bit harder to shift when cold, but perhaps better lubrication under pressure.
That is at least what I think, I have tried to replace oil in my box, but no avail, damn plug's square hole is rounded by previous owners and haven't managed to get it open, must try arc welder on it some time.

Re: Regards from Spain
Now I've got the answer... first of all, my father (former owner) told me that it got broken about 10 years ago, and it was badly repaired. That's the reason why it hell goes left at more than 120 Kms/h.
And I've cheked the oil, and more than oil, it seems mud. There is less than minimum and is absolutely brown and muddy.
More money to spend, but I want it performing on 100%

Re: Regards from Spain
I've changed (since last post) the gear's oil, power steering oil, the water pump (it broke down and needed to be replaced) and almost everything related to transmission.
It has cost a fortune, but it's worth, because now the car works much better than before.
Now I have found another problem the car carrys for manu years: the electric fan doesn't work
I took the car to the local dealer, but I was told thar it is impossible to get that part. I really don'r belive them and I have found on the web some solutions, and I hope to solve it soon.

By the electric fan doesn't work, do you mean the car heater system fan?
If so it will more than likely be the resistor in the heater box (looks like a coil of wire in a cheese grater) it wnt in mone, replacled it and the heaters have been fine since.

Re: Regards from Spain

Nice to meet people living so near to me! I'd like to keep the car as new, as a 'vintage' collector's car. I settle with having everything running properly; I don't plan to make great mods.

Re: Regards from Spain
I mean this fan; I've posted another topic, so I can try to solve it myself without wasting money (I've taken the car to a volvo dealer and he didn't give me a solution)José_Manuel wrote:If it works, this is the location; just in front of the radiator and behind the plastic grid:
The problem is that when I keep the car stopped because the traffic for many times, the temperature goes hell high and I've the feeling that any day, the engine will break up if I don't repair it!
