Sill Repair
Sill Repair
I decided to have a dig at some blistering underseal on my nearside sill where it joins the rear wheel arch. Guess what, no metal underneath.. The rest of the area seems sound so it looks like a fairly simple patching job. Does anyone now if a repair panel is available rather than mess around fabricating the wheel arch lip and step at the bottom of the sill?

Re: Sill Repair
Panels like this:

and this:

are still being produced by Nor / Klokkerholm. Contact your local motor parts place, or Hadrian / Beavers (?) they can order them for you.
Cheers

Re: Sill Repair
Thanks Tom,
The Beevers website lists 'rear lower corner' repair panels but I'm not sure if this refers to the bottom of the rear wing behind the wheels, either side of the boot floor. Otherwise they list a rear wheel arch or a full sill which seems a bit extreme given the small amount of rot I'm talking about.

Re: Sill Repair
I ended up cutting out the bits I wanted from the big panels in the end
I did save the wastage for another time though

Yes, the "rear lower corner" they're talking about is the section between wheel arch and bumper:Ian Mac wrote:The Beevers website lists 'rear lower corner' repair panels but I'm not sure if this refers to the bottom of the rear wing behind the wheels, either side of the boot floor. Try and compare what Beevers have on their site and what NOR show on their online shop:
http://www.nor-as.dk/uk/OnlineCatalogue ... fault.aspx
- Beevers "Alt No" is NOR's own part number. If the part you need isn't listed on Beevers or Hadrian's, try asking for it anyway, using the NOR part number, they might be able to order it ...
We did the same when repairing the rusty sections on my 343 ...Chris_C wrote:I ended up cutting out the bits I wanted from the big panels in the endI did save the wastage for another time though

Re: Sill Repair
The sill consists of a sandwitch of 3 parts.
1. The chassis, a sort of 90deg edge leading downwards, often floor is rusted at the edge
2. A middle bit with 2-3" holes in it. The bottom bit of it has 3 angles in it including a short bit that heads back under the car and hjust lips over the part 1.
3. The outer visible curved section, that welds to the slanted part of part 2.
Usually all 3 are knackered, unless you get it very early.
I was able to get a local metal fabricator to copy of the lower bit of part 2, I got about 6m for £30. Its not perfect but looks ok. For part 3 I was able to get a complete sill set for £40 from ECP (selling out stock). They were a bit rubbish and designed to be tacked on over the old sills, which is worth a damn in strength and leaves gaps around the pilars etc. I've seen a car with this done, run away very quickly. Anyway I only needed parts of it. I also have the complete sills from a car in good nick that I was scrapping (criminal I know but at the time no demand), but separating these is very difficult and the metal very flimsy once separated. I have used a few bits of it.
Anyway my 360 GLE Saloon restoration is 2/3 finished rust wise (new rear boot panels from Volvo), one sill done, just about to start the other.
