r5 turbo

Post by jony »

ive had a look threw and carnt really find much about putting a r5turbo engine in a 340 1.4

ive got chance of a complete engine so how hard is it ?

got to decide what conversion im going to do as ive got a 1.8 16v clio engine sat here aswell but would need to find some 1.7 bits to fit it

I've got a feeling one of the foreign contingent has done this conversion, i've no idea if you'd need the 1.7 parts or not.

The thing is the R5 has panels made of tin foil and weighs about as much as a feather compared to a 340. They are pretty good engines though even if they are old school pushrod design, and can be made to have big power but NOT by just turning up the boost as this is what kills the HG's on them.

Thats why they have a bad rep for HG's going, because people think they can just up the boost and not bother doing anything else to them, not because the HG's are a bad design. My 5Gt would run out of puff around 120mph on private roads of course, but with the right gearing i would have thought an F7R/P would be a bit quicker?

I think someone back in the day did it to a rhd car too. The thing that really put me off them is that the R5 boys put in 480T engines as upgrades, so seemed less than helpful if you are starting from scratch. If you have the block in your shed though...

i'm an owner of a LHD 340 with an gtt based B14, in a LHD i can barely fit the turbo with a custom exhaust manifold next to the intake manifold. you'll have to swap sump and weld 2 retour connections on the sump aswell. in an RHD you definatly gonna have much problems with the brake master cylinder...

all by all 1.8 16v will be easyer, especially if you have some basic electro-skills.
