Difference between a B14 and a B172?

i think the cubic capacity of the 1.7 is 1721cc-maybe its b172 as in 1721? :wink:
i could be worng-it could also be as in 2 valves per cyclinder e.g the volvo b230 (2.3 8 valve) and the volvo b234 (2.3 16valve)
probs the 1721cc thingy though?

anyone know abou this? :?

correct, volvo re-named the renault engines b14 after 1397cc and b172 after 1721cc

volvo even came up with its own design other than renault for the ribits holding the engine code plate :wink:

redblock name configuration is a completely different story though.
