stereo fascia adaptor
went to fit new head unit today ,going to have to hard wire it as previous stereo was bodged in . for some reason some of the speaker wires have been bridged. anyway the car has one of those facia adaptors to take the din fitting cage , i need to open the hole up slightly and wanted to take the facia adaptor out to make life easier , Do's anyone know how you get these adaptor plates out without breaking them ?

yank it
they're held in by 2 clips at either side, slide a screwdriver down between teh dash and the facia on the left-hand side and prise it away.

ok got old stereo out and fascia adaptor came out just as Hugh said, cage fitted now for the wiring
the electrics are fine brown earth, red and black for ignition controlled live and green for permanent live,
However on the side of the plug that stays in the car , I only have two pairs of wires each pair has one grey and one black , I presume these are for the front speakers,
on the side you unplug,(that gos to the headunit there are eight wires going into four pins two black, two red and black, two grey and two red and grey.
the greys and the red and greys each go to a speaker connection but the blacks and red and blacks all seem to be bridged together Is this some way of getting all the power from a four speaker system diverted to the front speakers ?
please help ,confused of Milton Keynes

in 90% of cases the power from a good hu will outdo most front speakers anyways, so no need. just leave the backs unplugged

You'd be suprised just how pathetic HU amps are...I got a hell of a shock when I changed from my '50w per channel' HU to my '50w per channel' power amp (which is for sale, dontcha know...).
Mick - Google for ISO colour-code standard for car audio - that ought to sort you ought. Black and grey are indeed the front speakers.
cheers
James

Looks nice! I also working on getting my stereo inte my car. I also got this "old" iso contact but before i knew i had no idea what the cables were to i took a multimeter and measured up what the cables are, and my green=constant 12V red=12V on ignition and i think it was the brown=earth and that there was two pairs of wires to the front speakers. Then i just bought cable-shoes and a new iso cable with empty wires and soldered it manually. I got away pretty cheap and it works perfectly
