For what it's worth, good 345s seem to be a lot rarer than good 343s. 343s were bought by people without kids ie. people with money (to spend on their motors). Sure, it doesn't mean they're prettier though.

I'd swap my 343 DLS for a 345 any day, if I ever came across one in good condition ... 5 doors: practicality win.

How picky can you get to try and not buy another 300 you tart! Buy this, then when a better 3dr comes up (somewhen when pigs fly, I wash my car etc etc etc) you can swap it.

You'll have saved up at least another car's worth in the meantime.
Personally I don't think it's a nice enough example - rare yes but it'd require a lot of work to get it to the standard I'd be happy with. 300's make me a bit of a perfectionist, any other car and I'm not at all that bothered

But yes, I do agree with Tom - especially with the earlier stuff, 345's are a fair bit rarer!

345's are also rare because the 345-badged 300's had very poor rear doors! just like the bonnets on 89-90, anti-rust coating didn't reach everywhere so they rot hard at weird places.
with the rear doors it was a problem that was fixed at modelyear 83 (wich is easy because then they went to the 340/360 badges) by drilling an extra hole in the doors bottom so the air could get out while the door was in the anti-corrosion layer bath

some known numbers: in holland there are about 130 343's left, and even less than 20 345's

Less than 20 345's  , they really are rare then, even more so than 343's. Probably the same here.

Those numbers are frightening  I was told, there are only around 300 V360s left in Holland which is scary considering the Netherlands were next to the UK the biggest market for these cars.

naaaa. last known numbers is somewhere around 400 360's and about 2500 340's. one guy at v3c thinks there's about 50 360's "vanishing up into skyrocket flames" every week or so....

they're getting rare, and prices have gone up significantly lately

400 isn't much either, split that figure up into MkIIs MkIIIs GLs, GLTs, GLEs etc and you'll come up with other scary figures like "20 MkII GLTs", "20 GLE saloons" etc ...

The rear doors on my 1980 345 are no worse than on the later cars I have...I'd say they're probably the fastest rusting part of the car regardless of age (except perhaps the sunroof)!

cheers

Rust-free rear doors are like the commonly-quoted hen's teeth. If anyone's scrapping a car, and the rear doors are good, save them for god's sake. They're easy to remove, too.

Got a silver N/S rear door with no rust, and front - and near rust free sunroof panel... should really get them shifted at some point!
