exhaust ground clearance?

Post by spike4073 »

hi, ive hust had a new back box fitted and ive noticed that the ground clearance for the section where the tailpipe and the centre section meet only cleares the ground by 4.5",..... will this be a problem with mot?...... or should i just be careful when aproaching speed bumps?

all feedback welcome

Usually hangs low a bit there. All mine have and its never been a mot problem.

Speedbumps or parking 2 wheels on the kerb and 2 on the road makes interesting noises though.

Wreck?
Doubt it dude. Take a speed bump at less than ten mph. If it rubs, and that bothers you, adjust it.
Mine only scrapes if I "straddle" a square traffic calming measure. Or park half on/half off a high kerb.

Even then, its just a chhhhhhk noise. Not going to tear the exhaust off.

Oh, forgot to say. My cars have always been lowered 2 inches. Is yours standard height?

If so, I doubt youll have any real probs dude. :D

The only time it will and an mot problem will be if a hole is made. Ye they are always low there, like VND says, is your car lowered?

yeah its standard height .... theres only that small section of exhaust that sits 4.5" off the ground, the rest is up to the body.....

At normal ride height youd have to be trying quite hard to catch it IMO dude.

true,.... these cars arent exactly low profile,... as i say i was just a bit worried about the exhaust been so low, avoiding speed bumps is easy enough my main concern was mot as i cant find any info about minimum exhaust ground clearance.

i guess thats the problem if its down to their descression, cos my local place are a bunch of tw**s

I've helped out in my old workplace with countless MOTs, I can't imagine it being a problem, but im not an MOT tester.

Find another testing station. The ground clearance isn't a MOT issue.
