installing a Toad Ai606 alarm

Post by andy_h »

I'm about to install one of these, has any one on here fitted one to their glt? and if so any heads up on potential wiring issues etc? also what central locking system does the glt have? single wire, vacuum etc?

Cheers

Shouldn't be too much grief..

Best to take out the clocks and column shroud. From there you can get to a lot of the wires you need (+/-, indicators, starter wire for immobiliser). As for the locks, the drivers door only contains the switch to trigger the motors in the other doors. It will not lock by itself as it has no motor. You will need an additional central lock motor, something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Wire-Door-M ... 439a28a67f
The instal sheet for the alarm will explain how to wire in the extra motor. It just goes in the drivers door and pulls the locking rod up and down.

Check this first... every 300 I've owned with CL has had a combined motor/switch in the drivers door just not wired up. Should be a standard 2 wire motor.

I'm just going by the haynes manual for this. Chris might be right.
I do my own alarms all the time, but mine doesn't have central locking so I'm not 100% on that bit

cheers, my car had a volvo factory alarm fitted but never worked for me, it had 2 key fobs and 2 keys to arm the siren and the unit. it had loads of piggyback wires on the ignition, starter motor, indicator wires etc.
it has remote central locking according to the previous owner and the alarm was wired to it via a pink and blue wire on a box installed in the bottom right corner of the drivers door. Just wondered what type it may be. i'll take a pic and post it up.

The motor in the drivers door needs the 2pin plug wiring up, that will then trigger the other doors.

Use the "additional motor lockin" setup and connect blue/red and grey/red to the red and blue wires on your motor. Not sure which way round, but if you get it wrong it'll lock when it should unlock, and vice versa.. Have to try and see which you need
