thats rite she runs and she's purring like a walrus with a 40 a day habbit, so shes in the garrage atm haveing a 2.5" system made as the exhaust is about 4 inch long atm lol, wanted to go for a 3" system for when it gets its bigger turbo but think it would waste fule?
hopefully shes ready for a few skids on the weekend at buxton
o and cheers for all ya help lads and cheers to gaz and a few others for quite alot of hours helping me out
Anyway, I'm pretty much of the opinion that the standard turbo can be made to be just as good as any bigger turbo provided no other mods are done (other than additional boost). I'm also of the opinion that large exhausts are not always better, 2.5" sounds perfect to me.
Regarding the exhaust...I'd go 3" if you can make it fit. There should be no change in fuel consumption, and it'll aid spool-up.
The requirements for N/A and turbo engines are different. You need to size an exhaust for an N/A engine so that it provides a suitable amount of backpressure to allow the manifold to do its thing, but when dealing with a turbo setup, the compact turbine housing provides all the backpressure (and much more!) you'll ever need, so a drainpipe exhaust for a turbo setup is just fine - the bigger the better, really. The only difference then is the appearance and sound. 3" is big enough for almost all applications, especially if the downpipe can be made 3" too.
james the plan was to go for 3" but the places near me wouldnt even bend up to 2.5" so i whent to a local engineer who dose alot of shit like this and the biggest he could go 2.5" so i whent for that, what a mistaake i made takeing it to him! because were the fule lines were he decided to do a side exit because he was was to lazy to put a tie on them and bend the pipe over the axle, as you can imagen it sounds and looks awful, you cant understand how bad it is, dont now how he thought i could get the car through a mot like that, so im going to look for a mig welder and fix it myself,
anyone got a pic of a 360 exhaust? standard and aftermarket, a pic of a turbo one would be great so i can look how its been done,
o and anyone got any pics of what plug/ wires go to the water temp sensor on the 360 loom? cant seem to figure out what came off it on mine and i cant foe the lfe of me understand wireing diagrams lol, will got an update and some pics and vids once the exhaustr is fixed
Did you swap the temp sensors over? The 360 and 940 ones are different. Hopefully by the time you've confirmed that I'll have got off my lazy arse and looked at the wiring diagram
2.5" will be fine, to be fair. The exhaust route is pretty simple (straight back, two 90 degree bends to take it out to the side, then an over-axle and straight out the back. Follow the same path with your exhaust, just use bigger pipe and straight-through boxes. If all else fails, Powerflow do good work (as long as you tell them very clearly and slowly that you don't want anything chav-tastic), but they're not cheap.
ive not changed them yet because i cnt find the plug on the 360 loom
cant remember where he standard exhaust whent its that long since i took it off, there seems to be a listening issue with people who make exhausts (maybe its the noise fuking with there heads?), if you find a pic post it up ive already got loads of over priced straight pipe, found a place that do over axle bends for twenty odd quid and just got a free bike exhaust can so im sure i can throw something together once i get a welder, i stuck the bike can into the side exit thats on and makes a diffrence so once its ran to the back and with the can on it should be fine
Did you put the plate back on that the fuel pump is bolted to? If so, it should be pretty obvious where the exhaust goes...especially if you follow the mounting brackets further back. Otherwise, there's probably a picture in the Haynes manual.
The wiring diagram I have to hand suggests that the wire is yellow. From memory it's bundled with the wiring from the start motor (assuming you've used the 360 wiring for the starter).
the fule pump had been rigged up by the previous owner ang was under the bonnet on the chassie leg lol so im not sure what this plate is without looking, ive mounted the fule pump in the car as close to the tank as it will go, the whole car was abit of a rig up tbh, it had been welded to perfection in two patches before i bought it, just pulled one of the patches off as it was rusted again, i actually pulled it off as it had been bonded on ffs lol
I see what you mean. Right...well there should be a plate which sits under the gearbox. The fuel pump sits on top of it, and there's a recess in it through which the exhaust bends. I've got a couple of spares kicking about if you want pics (hell, you can have one of them if you're interested).
I didn't have any reason to complain about the stuff I've seen them do before. Admittedly it's been on turbo cars, where (post-turbo) exactly what they do is less critical.
I'm proud of that exhaust...it was masterful work for 1:30am I actually had someone compliment me on the quality of the welds the other day...
