inlet manifold leak or exhaust manifold leak? firing on all cylinders? timing correct? check the spark to all cylinders, compression test too. check the ht leads n dizzy for corroded connections or no connection. check the timing belt tension and the timing its self.

as for the squeak, where is it coming from? enough oil on the engine? possibly belt tension on either the drive belt or the cam belt maybe.

Hi,
my Laguna with the F4R engine also sounds a little diesely, on Renault engines the most common cause is the dephaser pully and less commonly the dephaser solenoid, have a look on youtube as some good examples are shown!

Hope this is of some use!

We are a snadgers lucky.. well, ish.

The F7x's don't have VVT, so don't have the dephaser stuff or the issues that go with them. Shame, as we also don't have the extra 30bhp that go with them!

Whats the F4R like in the Lag? It's very very top endy in my housemates 182 Clio, much more aggressive cams than my F7R (then again, that's what the dephaser allows!)

Hi Mate,
Its not bad in the Laguna, cars quite heavy so its not very fast, it would have been faster if it actually was an F4R, but I got confused its an 2.0 F4P, has been very reliable, but lacks torque, even less than an RX8!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like the exhaust manifold is blowing. Probably the gasket, or from where the manifold meets the down pipe, or both. You did say it was leaking from there, so it'll most likely be that.

Sounds like exhaust yeah, it got louder around that area too. I'd say it's leaking from where the manifold meets the downpipe.

Christ, that does sound rough! Hmm, hang on, having another watch

Hmmm, was as I thought. Do you have any hose lying round? Noise sounds around 800Hz to me, try putting a 10" hose where you have the ricer breather filter if so, I had to do that with Fake

Yup, the squeaks coming from that little cam cover breather you've got. Best thing is to just put a long length of hose on to a breather tank, if not, just a long length of hose as has been said :)
