it recirculates the air in the cabin

;)

in real life its not uber-useful - you can warm up the cabin a bit quicker, and stop some smells getting in, but only if you see them coming (smoke etc)

Dead easy to fit though... I've posted somewhere how to do it (I'll try to find it, unless I didn't post it :(). if you ever see one in the scrappies, worth a grab.

Also useful before entering a very loooong tunel  I'll install it on my GLT, I don't understand why only 86 & 87 models have it and not later... Economy?

To fit one how many parts do you need exactly?

I'm curious

- the air recirculation button
- 2 hoses (with air inside)
- The "pump" on the fan box

Hmm okay

Cheers for that!

I should really start paying visits to local scrap yards for rarities and other interesting parts like that! Oh and a new 231 bonnet/wing (still)!

Cheers,

I've been meaning to do this for some time, I've got the parts sat there, and once Chris had done it, I think I should. He has told me it's rather a straight forward affair, and the mountings are there, it's literally a bolt on job and put the pipework in and a button, or at least I hope it is.

Aymat, it is odd how only 86-87 models have it, in my 89 brochure they air brushed out or covered the button over on one car, probably an old pic.

I'm sure earlier I read in my Haynes that every car after 8X was fitted with it!

Odd

Anyway, umm... does that small panel with the button replace where mine says Volvo then?

It's an easy job, I confirm that...

I was just thinking that the system is also very useful for people like me: during the winter, there is no risk of asphyxiation when the engine is warmed up in the garage box

Indeed, apparently the Volvo logo pops out and you'll be able to put the button in. I've not seen any 88 or 89 car's with it from the factory, which seems odd, as the 89 GLT's got a few extra items, such as the high level brake light, electric mirrors, but no recirc.......... Which makes me wonder if they discovered something about it that was a problem and stopped putting it in, not that I can see anything to go wrong as such or cause any other failures within the car.

Well... I realize that it's not SO easy for the button! Around the button, the plastic is integrated to the whole front panel. There is only one little cover that pops up (for the aircon button) So, for the models WITHOUT the button, the plastic with "VOLVO" on it is too large... Two solution: put the front panel where the button was genuine (my picture) OR cut a little square in the plastic with Volvo... I took a picture now:

Same reaction for me... What was maybe wrong with that system?
