I have made attempts at building a bow few times, but there is some issues, like bow cracking too easily. But before that they have been surprisingly good, arrow has actually left from bow and with one managed to pierce wooden plank from 10 meters. Wooden plank was not thick at all.
Maybe some day I manage to do it properly so that I could start practicing, there are really a lot of rabbits around here...
I shoot a recurve bow. Badly. Did have a go with a longbow a few weeks back,anyone who can actually hit what they're aiming at with those things is a legend.
I used to do archery, but it gets a bit dangerous with me.. The reason is, I have a weird eye condition which means I only look out of one at a time, and the one I need for long distance happens to be the opposite side to the hand I hold the bow with. So, to hit the target, I need to aim, then turn roughly 20 degrees to the left. It's the "roughly" bit that makes shooting a bit hit and miss lol. But I have hit a bullseye several times
I'm pretty good and can usually get it at least within the blue and red within 10 meters but I'm far far better with shotguns. I blame video games for that, all those years playing duck hunt on the NES

sorry for the strayiong off topic.. but this 3d thing has always been confusing to me. I mean, how can we tell if we can or can't see in 3d? I mean, we don't know what 3d looks like if we can't see it.
I guess it's obvious I have the same... as does my current gf and one of my ex's.
FWIW, I've done a bit of research into it. Depending how close your thing is to mine, you *can* see in 3D. The only reason I know is I still get the mickey taken out of me as when I saw Avatar in the cinema I jumped out my seat and into the footwell, it was the first time I'd seen in 3D (using differential vision)
A 3D film/camera tech chap explained it well to me, explaining that there were 7 or so things that give you perceived depth of an item, differential vision is only one.
It's soley a lazy condition in your brain. I spent 8 months doing brain training to try and overcome the weak area in my brain, but stopped as was causing myself some fairly epic migraines. The downside was every time I used differential vision I lost some of the heightened sense of the other 6 or however many things that also lead you to depth, so all I achieved was to make my distance judging worse! Now, I'm just not using the differential again, I've never missed it.
Try to catch the ball with one eye closed, if you fail miserably, then it is relatively safe to say that you see in 3d and use your both eyes to estimate distances.
If you catch the ball like before, you probably can't see 3d and use your brain to compensate lack of visual information so that you estimate approaching ball's path, one can do that without knowing, but those that see in 3d should not be able to catch the ball with one eye closed.
Well, that is my theory at least.
I spook others often by walking with my eyes closed, I can hear what is around me if they make even little sound, also I can estimate turns by walked distance and so on, it really does not matter if I see or not, but don't know about that 3d thing, even that test is something that I just estimated how it might be possible to test, without knowing much of anything at all about it.
I have used bow with aims, but not really sure if those helped me as bow without aims is giving me as poor results. I have managed to hit arrow that was on target, but I guess that will happen no matter how poor you are if given enough many shots.
Silly thing is that when I was in school I managed to get chance to test that sport and found it really interesting, but never had chance to really start thing properly. Now I have own yard so I would need only some equipment, always something in a way.
Spot on Jani. Same with getting someone to hold a pencil around 90cm inline in front of you, with one eye shut touch the tip.
I shoot with one eye shut. I'm just lucky that I'm left handed and left eye'd... apart from firearms that eject the cartridge into the side of my head...
Sounds like quite a common thing, my sister had a squint corrected at a very early age, can't see 3D now and had problems catching ball etc. when we were little. Both eyes are fine but it's the brain not putting the images together to form 3D or so the Doctors said at the time.
