Do any of the 2.3s in 2/7/900 use a renix system? Id do that if available as it'd all plumb up to your original loom. When its running you could swap to something programmable if wanted.

renix system?
i should of said this from the start.
i use a 360 for car trials. im now after a bit more power hence trying b230 with carbs.
the coil seems to have ignition cut out when reving out and the delay on the hills is too long. (loose power and traction)
so im tring to find out if i can use a points distributor and a coil and ditch all the volvo stuff.
im trying to keep it all simple incase i get breakdowns on road trials.
im not an expert on ignition stuff so all help is appriciated

Some Renix's do have ignition cut, not sure which though :( None of mine have luckily (for what I use them for) Renixs are the electronic ignition that 300's (and some bigger bricks and Renaults) have, it's bomb proof though, mine used to see a lot of fords and whites on rallys before I did the engine swap.

Good luck with the hunt, I'm afraid I don't know the big bricks well enough to know if there is a vacuum advance dizzy that just bolts on. Maybe worth an ask on the VOC 2/700 subfora?

Otherwise, I'd go for something small and programmable, but for the sake of just connecting up the existing plugs I'd try the Renix first if there is one there (though granted I'm a bit strange...). Trying to set up weights for the advance curve if the dizzy wasn't native to the B230 would scare me more, whenever I've done PCT's a nice flat power delivery seemed to help a huge amount compared to the revvy peaky sort of 106Rallye idea.

Do you need to follow the blue book trials section? Not sure what that allows.

What you need is the dizzy and ignition modul from a k-jet 240. The 240 uses a rev limiting rotor arm but can be replaced with the early no limiting one. Just order a rotor for a 1977 240. The 240 dizzy does have van advance and you can turn the dizzy to adjust timing. That setup is the best and most flexible ignition system for the Red Blocks.
