Help the aged! 1980 345 Mk1-front engine mount member needed
Hello to all! My Lady requires some help so once again I'm turning to the good folks of this forum. To pass the overrated MOT I have to find a front engine member for my original shape Mk1 (pre facelift,as I'm sure you all know). So far all I can source is the post facelift which doesn't fit. I'm hoping one of you have got a reasonable one knocking around-(mine's now more weld than metal) and no matter how many biscuits I give his labrador he won't pass it.Also I once dealt with a nice father and son team who had a 340 garage in woolwich who I remember having spares for early models-they helped me out with a new old stock propshaft and I can't track them down. I hoping someone out there can help. Have attached a picture so hopefully you know the part I need.

I've got one on my 1980 Mk1 which I assume I'll be replacing with a 360 type when I do an engine swap. It may be in usable condition but it could be a while before I'm sure that it will be swapped. What are the differences? I must admit I've not compared the types closely before.

Thanks for the reply-the main difference is the shoulders the engine mounts on-on the early one the shoulders are longer, whereas on the face lift they are shorter. I not in too much of a hurry, but would like to drive the car more since lack of use has caused a lot of welding to be required.

Is the difference actually down to the facelift or the MY84/85(?) vertical to slant engine mount change.

Possibly yes-i'm not familiar with the ins & outs of the design-just that I have a member from a facelift model and the shoulders are too short. I may have to get the two welded together in some sort of frankevolvo creation.

That is cruel of you, I am down to my last 9 jars ....and they still have to last a long time!
The 1980 engine carrier is 3271022 and was used up from the start in 1976 to chassis number 910265 (January 1984).
There is a likely chance that I have one kicking around in Belgium but freight wise it might be wise to have a look in ther UK first.
It may be a good idea to change the front engine mounts at the same time, Do you still have these Richard?

Thanks RJ for the definitive answer on that one. I didn't think it had anything to do with the look of the car.
(I was in my local Tesco the other night and thought I'd take a picture of the current of offer for you...didn't know you hit the crisis point of being down to the last 9 jars...I'll see if I can fix something up)
I do indeed have those type of front engine mounts available.

Hi guys-thanks for the info.So far no joy on finding one of these carriers in the UK-maybe the Belgium connection is the way forward. When the original one was re-welded and I sourced the carrier from the later design I also got the matching mounts. The carrier did not fit but the mounts were fitted. The carrier really is all I need. She's going in to be welded this week (the usual jacking points and arches) but the carrier is beyond it. Any suggestions?

The rubber mounts from the early version are not interchangeable with the later version.
So early carrier -- early mounts
Late model carrier -- late version mounts
So early carrier -- early mounts
Late model carrier -- late version mounts

Back in 2007 when the original repairs were made the mechanic made them fit-he had to recut some threads to do it I remember. I was against it at the time but it was needs must and these were the materials we had available. The Lady was my one and only car then & was my workhorse,so I couldn't have her off the road for long. Now she's retired and I got both time and qualifications to fix her and give back what she gave me-years of service. Just her age gives me trouble finding parts-hence my appeal here.

I'm afraid I don't have the parts or the technical knowledge to help you on either this or your other post, but I am very happy to hear about another 1980 345 still on the road and in the hands of someone who loves it. Any chance of a full picture of the car?
