center console

Post by Vart »

does anyone have a diagram for replacing the centre ashtray bits (tray, clock and cigar socket)? how much hassle is it and does it need a radical overhaul to do? haynes only has nice pictures for pre '83 models........

who ever fitted the nasty vacuum gauge into mine seems to have done it with a hack saw and thus i fear a total replacement is needed.

The actual 3 panels are easy, getting the surround between them and the squidgy grey is a pita from what i remember though. That requires stereo and everything else out too, can't remember if the glove box is needed out to get to the screws. Heres hoping you only need the 3 panels ;) Thats just a ashtray out, screw out, ashtray holder out. Fingers round and pop clock and lighter out.

ok, i just need to replace the ashtray holder i think so i sounds easy enough.. also do cigar sokcets naturally corrode. my current car's one is rotten, my DL one was rotten and the 3 i took from the scrapyard were either rotten or the bits that hold them against the current were broken off....

thanks

Can't really add anything extra to what Chris has said, but wondered what you think of the new purchase and have you got any pics to show us? :)

The cigar sockets do corrode quite badly actually, though I've been lucky so far! Yeah, I'm currently removing all of the dash area of a 360, so I might be able to give you some pointers if you need them, not a lot to add to the good advice already given, but might be able to get some pics if needed. Hope it is only a case of replacing panels and ash tray.
And as Steve says, what's it like and pics please!?!
