Its easy to tell, just start the engine, and open the lid to oil replenishment, no air pressure or oildrops?
someting wrong with my valves on my 360 -88 ??

If i remove the lid to where i fill engineoil, and have my engine running, i can see some oildrops coming up, not much but enough to worry me. My father says theres something wrong with the valves, and that no oil should leak up when you remove the lid and the engine is running. My car runs very good , and my father dont know much about cars... How about you guys? Have you got the same problem on your 340/360 ?

If you mean the valve cover there SHOULD be oil in there when the engine is running. 2 litre engine in 360 has an over head cam axle and the cam needs lubrication too.
So it is normal.

yes there should. basically, the conrods move up and down to open and close the valves. these conrods have oil on them, and when they move up then stop the oil keeps going.
it is 100% normal

Yes it is normal especially if your car is fuel injected, because these cars have positive crank case ventilation which means that crank case fumes are sucked back in to the intake from the breather box. And in fuel injected 360's there is a mass airflow meter which measures the air going into engine so when you open the oilcap or similiar the engine starts to suck air in through the crank case from breather hose bypassing the air mass flow meter and the engine starts to run badly. That same thing happens for me if I remove the oilcap when the engine is running.

There is no conrods in 360.
If I take that lid out when engine is running, I will have lot to cleanup as oil is all over the place. Over head cam engines should be like this as far as I know, pushrod engines is another story.
There is little rattle indeed, there is small pieces of rubber in each valve pusher cup/thing and those could be worn, also check valve clearance. That could make sound less.

So I was right and by lid he meant the valve cover?
Because I can't figure any other lid except the valve cover.

Ahh.. Just oil cap that is.
I thought that you meant the whole cover which has the text Volvo on it.

Nope, nonetheless there is supposed to be oil lubricating the camshaft under those when the engine is running.
So everything is normal.

That will just be the filling cover for the oil?
It's not that good of an idea to run the engine whitout the valve cover, i think you'll have to take a few shower to wash off the oil
Some will be fliying around when you do that.
