Electric mirrors (heated?)

Post by Tero Huikko »

Hi there...

So I'd like to buy a paiir of leccy mirrors for my 360.
I don't know if heated ones were ever made??? but if were I'd sure be interested.

Been also wondering if any other volvo-leccy-heated mirrors are easily fitted to 300-series volvos. Any idea?

Well, after 1989 the 360 GLT spec included electrically adjustable, heated mirrors. The late 340's had them too as an option, and the last one's made normally had them fitted straight from the box in the UK.

the wiring is hard, but the mirrors themselves are easy to fit - the wiring isnt hard in itself - it is just getting it to go through the piping to the door

all 300 series electric mirrors were, as far as i know, heated.

Not easy to make the rear leccy windows to work. They seem to get stuck in the the "lowest" position. Modified the front leccy struts to minimize the movement to the "manual window -measured limits" simply by bending the struts and adding a few holes and bolts+nuts to prevent the movement any lower.

Fitting is not a problem, but measuring the right places to drill the motor attachment holes in is the nerve wrecking part. Also managing to get the unit inside the door takes a week :)

Still not working the way I'd want to. Next time I tear down the rear door panels I'll take pictures and measurements for you...it's an ambitious project, but if working - a rare and classy one I'd say :) I ripped a control unit from 760 and it fits right in the center console where the original leccy unit sits.

But...the mirrors are still missing...and the turbo and LSD rear end and leather and...but I'm gonna get it all one way or the other.

getting wires through door rubber:

Take a spoke. That's right, a spoke. Poke the threaded end through the rubber from inside the door. Tie the wires with a tie wrap onto the curved end, and pull the spoke from inside the car out. Now you've got the mirror wires indide your car, carry on from there.
Leather, leccy windows and mirrors, snowcap, foglights, open air filter, black roof upholstery. What more do you want? >a 2.3 turbo!

I was thinking of doing an electric rear window conversion on my car using an aftermarket kit (I have one at home somewhere) and using Volvo switches... although hmm, passenger heated seat might have to go then :P
