I'm planning to have the car moved by the end of the month, fingers crossed. I was planning to meet up with you at some point Hugh - for a swap. I'll drive the car to Brighton if needs be. I want to do a good run so I know she'll be reliable.

I'll probably head to your folks place later this week Hugh to have a preliminary tinker - armed with a can of underseal (to cover a multitude of sins :)), a back-box, a freshly charged battery, and a boot full of tools. Do your folks have a key this time? :-P

cheers

Update: I've just got an insurance quote for under £500 :)

Now I just have to work out...
2-4 weeks insurance for me to drive it to the MOT testing station and to Derby,
How to make sure it'll get through the MOT as cheaply as possible,

Time for a trip to Hugh's folks place, and a (gloomy) look at her in the cold light of day.

cheers

Well I'd probably be up for a mini meet as silly as it sounds considering the distance! I fancy a bit of a trip out and might be able to be of some assistance. Let me know when it's likely to be, and if you need me to bring anything.

Wow Pete...that's quite something - thanks for the offer. Are you back on the road then? I think I'll base 'the plan' on the outcome of my visit later this week.

The rust is as it is (will be quizzing my ex-MOT-tester mate about that), but the rack and the brakes have got me a bit worried. Other than that...no problem!

cheers

Evening guv'

I'm hoping to crack on before the end of the month. I'll be going for a 'viability study' on thursday...ie: take a look at how knackered the thing actually is!!

Possibly maybe.... I need to learn, and can fix the electrical stuff ;) Depends on when, let me know.

An update!

I've paid Nessy a visit today, and scoped out the potential.

Good news:
# Rear brakes (shoes and cylinders) are new, and very damn clean.
# Steering rack seems to be fine, as do a couple of other little things that had me worried.
# Prep work is done (removing old exhaust, etc).
# I've done a fair bit of cleaning and 'reassembly'.

Bad news:
# The interior is in a heck of a state. Working on that one with Hugh ;)
# As yet undiagnosed slow cranking problem (probably related to the flat battery)
# Rust is a little worse than I remembered, but still nothing terminal.
# Front number plate is cracked...another tenner gone!
# Since the Summer vid was made, she now runs like poop. It was dark before I cranked her over (not a big priority right now), so I'm not too sure of the score there. Not a biggie anyway.

Verdict:
This is very much do-able. The bill for the garage element of this will be bigger than I anticipated, but hopefully the DIY bill will be smaller. It's down to Ruth to confirm she definitely wants the car, my garageman to confirm he's up for it, and Nessy to get me to a job in London on the 6th December. That means 'the working party' will probably have to do our thing next weekend (25-27th) sometime. All and any are welcome - I'd like to use this as a opportunity for people who wouldn't normally poke around their cars to get 'hands on' with a 'low risk' project.

Big thanks to Andy (pettaw) for his advice so far.

Two happy cars...

I've just watched the Taunton video footage again, and I can clearly see that Hugh not only pinched the rocker cover (now bent?), he also nabbed the original (good) carb! Some people just don't know how to help get cars off their parents drive sm56

cheers

LOL, ah well, he tried! Well, as I said, still up for it. Around the 25th-27th is do able I think, or at least one of the days maybe two. Quite a lot on at work, but I'm a man of my word, and a break would be nice, even if it is cold and wintery! Good pic as well Foggy! I'm learning about the B14, now I've got the vario, which will hopefully be on the road soon, so any more info and experience with a 1.4 would be good and it's for a worthy cause, Nessy will ride again!

It's so frustrating that you're so close to home, yet I can't be there, I'd have loved to help...
