I have this concern about length too. As I understand it, compressing (or stretching) a shock beyond where it is designed to be operating can wear it prematurely. I think you're ok within ~60mm, but much more than that might be a problem. Any comments guys?

cheers

Well nothing to worry bout then fogs i cant see you being able to lower a 300 more than that without modding arches anyway!! And dampers work for the whole length of their stroke anyway so???

Pah, I'll just add V-TAK, NAWWWS, and an electric supercharger. That'll make up for it. sm56

The main problem you have when fitting lowering springs with more than 40mm drop from factory ride hight is the spring will drop out. The big problem we have is most 300's will have sagged more than that by now. I will try and get the dampers made shorter to allow for lowering and still be ok for std springs.

Just a couple more names is all we need- please correct me if my list is wrong.

Unfortunately I've just fitted 4 new shocks to mine, I got rear GLT ones from the dealer, and managed to get standard ones from GSF. I also fitted new springs and those new wishbone bushes. Incidentally the original springs were 10cm longer than the new GLT springs and also the tracking was out after I put it all together, suggesting that the car is slightly lower now than it was before.

I would potentially be interested though, but how OEM do the shocks look. I suppose I could tell my insurance but......

Hmm... is it really a requirement to tell insurance? Do I have to tell them if I fit Monroe shocks instead of Volvo OEM? Sod em.. spray the shock casings black!

Fixed rate = non-adjustable.

"Fixed rate" is kinda confusing because 'rate' is a term associated with springs rather than shocks...but I guess it works for us.
