'Shift up light' schematics wanted

I have a spare 'shift up' light unit, as well as the 5th gear lockout switch...and the above is all installed in Nessy...but it doesn't do anything. Any ideas regarding what else needs hooking up...system schematics, etc? IIRC, there's not much to it....just the light, the lockout switch, and the Renix unit (for RPM and load info).

Lockout switch?? What does that do?

I've never come across it mate, but at a guess, theres a mark space measuring thing, that takes a wave from the renix, but I could be miles out. Plus I don't know which unit the measuring thing would be in, sorry

-but when we were younguns with x/flows, valve bounce was as good as any shift light

Valve bounce it just doesnt happen! 8000rpm and it still wants to go but I dont!

hi Foogy... Ive got some info for you

Its from the Volvo Green book for the 340 1.4 engine

(PS Did you know there was a volvo 340 1.3 also!)

Its got two pages of fault and testing for the change up indicator...

I dont have a scanner so shall I photocopy and post it to you?

i've got full schematics for any v300 curcuit in my old autodata manual..

i think the black 3 pin'd chip on the back of the dash does something to do with it. the lockout generally doesnt work..

I must buy an Autodata manual.

8 grand...which car? I've heard that stock valve springs on a redblock can keep them in check up to about 7500rpm, but then you can get double springs from Volvo themselves

This is an economy feature, rather than a red-line shift light. I'm not that fussed about it as a driving aid, but it'd be fun to rig up this relatively rare piece of kit.

Hmm.....there's a B13.4, but I think it's still a 1.4. The difference (AFAIK) is in the manifolds...and it uses a freaky Solex carb.

The 340 1.3 was a special model for Belgium... for tax reasons.. Volvo had access to the 1.3 as Renault still used it. I believe they used the 1.1, 1.3 and 1.4 in the Renault 5 which was made till M reg....
