Alloy Wheel Refurb

Post by 990 »

My 360 has the usual alloys and although the rear ones are ok, the front ones could do with a little 'TLC' (ask Steve P) :)

Anyone had any alloys refurbished recently, or is it better to go looking for some replacements

Worst of all I missed a 360GLE on Autotrader for £55 with Mk 2 GLT Alloys on it - and only 20 miles away from me

If you go to a specialist wheel place they'll quote you from £50 per wheel, plus the cost of any repairs to the wheel.

If the wheel is sound, but just that the paint is flaking off then you'd be better off talking to a powdercoating firm.

I had my set of Andromedas on the 960 beadblasted, powdercoated and laquered for £30 a wheel and the finish is superb.

The Andromeda has a large centre area and so they charged me more than if I'd presented a Polaris - that would have been £25 a wheel!

I reckon GLT wheels would be expensive to refurb because of the large surface area of the alloy. I'd get out the sand paper, grinder, rattle cans and some lacquer!

Yeah I say do it yourself, I used a wire brush drill attatchment on mine primer and rattle cans and some laquer, cost me £8 in total and the finish is pretty good, did take a while though so depends how much time you've got on your hands,
cheers

Well hurry up and do it. We're getting fed up with tripping over the damn things whenever we put the wheelie bin out.......
