well... one missing and the one opposite is looks quite thin... odd that there are two weaker springs there?? thats not normal? ( aint got a clutch to hand to have a look at.... there is one in a box here somewhere.... )

I once had a spring come out on a 460 it jammed the thing in second gear.

In Hugh's defence the joskins round here would call that a good clutch

The only noise from the rear end is the exhaust banging on the body because someone smug didn't put the rubbers back on properly and the rear two have fallen off...and the vibration - almost certainly from the very bent clutch output shaft. I'm thinking it's probably the rear bearing for the shaft which has gone, as it's a bit worse on decelleration (albeit really, really bad accellerating at high RPM....I've not tried decellerating up there), where the force is coming from the back, rather than the front.

The trigger wire for the starter has been abusively bodged at some point, and is now hanging on on a wing and a prayer. It's actually been AOK today after falling off every time the engine was started (ie: each start-up required reaching under the HOT manifold (I have burns to prove it!) and trying to push the wire back onto the stub of the connector.

I first discovered this problem when I stopped en-route to work to reattach the exhaust after it popped off (no idea why...was still tight, and we hadn't touched it)...and then the starter wouldn't fire! Balls...

On the plus side, over 40mpg fast(ish) cross-country for the win!
