After another long trip to the North to get another engine (non Volvo this time) my odometer decided to stop working (both the total and the trip readings), but the speedo still works.
My old 340 had the same problem - anyone know what fails in them and how hard it is to rectify?
Typically I had the dash out last Friday to put my new dials in, so could have had a butchers then
Cheers

LOL, another one! Mine died recently, well I say recently, months ago and yes, the speedo still works but no mileage recording part of it. I believe that something either locks up, or a gearing or teeth are stripped. Probably replaceable or fixable, but the usual cheap fix is to drop another speedo head in there. I have a stack of them that I could use, but then there is the issue of correcting the milage on the new one as well, but I'm hoping to do the 400 speedo mod soon, that is sat on my desk awaiting further plans!

Pending further investigations and tests, I may come up with something that will improve the mod for all those wishing to/having done the 400 speedo mod, but the dinstinct lack of time has meant nothing has been done as yet, so I'll post the results once I've done my conversion. It was a novelty driving a 300 with a working speedo the other day! I need to record all the revs compared to speed through out the gears, I did know them all from memory from when my speedo cable worked intermittenly for a long time and I didn't have chance to change it! That way I can be sure the new speedo is accurate, as some people have had some issues with the mod.

Any news on the certain project plans atm mate? I know you've been busy.
Carl, either take htat head and, and have a play and see if it can be free'd, or do as Pete said, I'm sure worst case is stick the thing on a drill for a few hours
