Interestingly, George Mitchell (Friends of the Volvo 300) claims that all 300s were VIN'd as 340s. Mine is down as a "345", so that tallies. Anyone else?
cheers

Not quite right there Mick...but...I think you've actually hit the nail on the head indirectly!
The first 2.0 300s were badged with an 'S'....ie: 343/345 DLS/GLS. These versions were never sold here (too early) hence your entirely understandable error. That might well explain the mystering VINning - they were all 340s originally.
Speaking of George, he mentioned you'd joined FOTV3 when I spoke to him last, so I was able to say that I'd met you a number of times!
cheers
James

Thanks for the kind reply, James . I enjoy reading this forum very much
Joined FOTV3 as I have chanced upon this b200 V3 I own, having however scrapped three others previously. Thanks Pete Farrell I think who was handing out FOTV3 leaflets at the Milton Keynes meet a year ago
I have hardly ever checked engine/chassis nos of my cars -when I see that great long code on MOT/reg etc docs I reassuring note if there is a 345 in the middle somewhere it must be OK
I have worked in a bicycle accessories' company for many years - as a picker/packer actually - I have noted with interest how coding and identifying "products" develops as minor alterations are made over time and knowledge of why and how real changes affect or otherwise what their listings are.
cheers mickt

Ah good work Mick, I'm glad you joined up with them, it's a nice little club.
Foggy, I remember you saying about you wondered what had happened with your car, and the VIN, as to whether it had was intended to be a 340, but after checking mine, having never really taken much notice, saw they were all 345 as well, and came to a similar conclusion.
Pete
