PRACTICAL CLASSICS

Post by daffodil »

well i have just got my latest mag which i have been buying since it came out (over 20 years) and i cant remember ever seeing an article on the poor old 340 360
i think its about time that they included this model.....they dont even list it in the price guide
its far superior to the same age astra or escort which have all rusted away by now
i am thinking of sending an e-mail to the mag and i want to know what you all think
many thanks martin...(daffodil)

Whilst they may not have done a featureon them one of the team did buy a D plate 1.7 as his DD and made the comment that these cars have yet to attain classic status by the masses, but had attained a cultfollowing. He went on to recommend them to everyoneone as a sound, safe, comfortable buy that would last forever.

Why do we need to prove our cars to anyone else!?! The drifters have found the secret, there was one bidding on a cheap 1.7 on the bay the other day I spotted. It is a good idea though, we know the secrets of why we like our cars, do we need to share it!?

No I can understand why people don't want to promote our secret but realistically how many volvos are in scrap yards that dont have much wrong with them? Sooner or later our loved cars will be a 'rare' classic, at least if people start to take an interest and realise what we have maybe we won't loose our cheap affordable fun int he future

How does a 71k F plate 360GLT with pretty much no rust, no dents, and recent Volvo services item sound. An A plate 360GLT a year ago too came into my local yard that really shouldnt've been in there.

I picked up the March issue as I was taken by their promise to 'stop rust for ever'.

One item on the front cover was 'Bargain Volvo 480 - Cool, reliable, cheap'. :?
  • Affie - 1987 340 GL 1.7 - scrapped
  • Sausage - 1990 340 1.4 - banger raced
  • Rory - 1989 340 Image - broken
  • Brian - 1991 940 SE 2.0 Turbo Estate - murdered
  • Geraldine - Kia Venga

The 480 was known to not be reliable, when it first came out ;) Post '92s are better, but not good. I still need to buy one though, I like the idea of having everything I need next to me when I do this engine swap

Practical Classics

Post by kevGLT »

Think it would be a good idea to approach Practical Classics to do an article on the 340 / 360 series.
'Classics Monthly' done a restoration article back in May 2002 about a 1980 343 which had been in the same family for 21 years, don't think I still have the magazine, but will have a look.
